With another summer Olympics approaching, the idea of “fitness” is all a buzz. Two Olympics ago, people watched records break and competition rise in Beijing, China on 08/08/08. The value of numbers in every culture plays an important auspicious and suspicious role on the individual mindset. Many cultures believe in different numbers holding certain power or luck to drive their active lifestyles.

While I do not take the value of numbers too seriously, the number “4” has been the cause of much of my silly OCD since I was a child, being born on 04/04 over 20 years ago. People like my grandfather value the numbers “18” and “36”, a “chai” or double “chai”, which in Jewish culture propels good luck and fortune. My mother finds “13” to be very lucky and promising. Others fear it. In China, “8” holds power, and there are eight different merchants ready to provide you with top fitness and wellness guides in inspiration of the upcoming Olympic Games. Being an athlete myself, I found there are eight products that coincidentally are prone to tips for athletic competence. The following merchants, all of which you can find great offers for on our coupon site, relate more to your physical and mental wellbeing than you may realize.

Common wisdom dictates the best time to buy a new [HDTV](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/tvs?ref=blog&ref_post=where-to-buy-a-new-tv-for-the-super-bowl) falls on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The holidays always seem to bring out the [best deals on electronics](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/electronics-and-cell-phones?ref=blog&ref_post=where-to-buy-a-new-tv-for-the-super-bowl), including entertainment systems. Although this genuinely rings true, common wisdom also dictates retailers will be vying for your attention in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl with deals on everything from chicken wings to [audio speakers](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/home-audio-systems?ref=blog&ref_post=where-to-buy-a-new-tv-for-the-super-bowl). Factoring into the equation that models that didn’t sell during the holiday season are being eagerly pushed off the shelves, January and early February tend to influence some very attractive prices on televisions.

Football fans spent $12.3 billion in 2013 prior to the Super Bowl. According to the National Retail Federation, 5.1 percent of viewers plan to buy a new TV for the big game this year. A total of 108.4 million folks tuned in last year, meaning somewhere in the ballpark of 5 to 6 million will be shelling out to watch the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos, the New England Patriots, or the Seattle Seahawks pull out a victory on a brand new piece of tech.

Stores know this, envisioning droves of jersey-donned pigskin fanatics searching for the perfect price. Consequently, we will see attractive price tags, free shipping promos, and other incentives like free installation to woo prospective customers. So where are the big deals?

Customers can find televisions equipped with smart technology and 3D significantly reduced from the suggested retail price at Best Buy.

Sony: 20% to 60% off Outlet TVs

Sony is dropping the price of the 47” W802A Series LED Internet TV from $1,499.99 to $1,099, a $400 reduction. [Samsung](https://www.promocodes.com/samsung-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=where-to-buy-a-new-tv-for-the-super-bowl): 65” Class LED 6300 Series TV reduced from $3,099.99 to $1,599.99

The big game is less than three weeks away, so there is still time to wait it out in case bigger deals come out. If you plan to go into the actual store, remember that more than 40 percent of stores have price negotiation policies. Do some research beforehand to see if the retailer you’re visiting takes kindly to haggling.

If you're wondering where to buy a new TV for the Super Bowl, consider yourself ready. But are you ready for some football?

We want independence and we want it now! We are at or quickly approaching the age where we need to take that giant step out from under our parents’ wing and spread our own. I’m talking about moving out. But slow down eager birdies, there is some serious planning that needs to go down. You do not want to end up in over your head and ultimately back under your parents’ roof. I have compiled a few savings tips to help you start to survive the expenses of living on your own and prepare for those large initial costs. So you think it’s time to leave the nest, but are you sure you’re ready? Like really ready? Here's a manual for moving out to avoid any serious financial mistakes:

**Save, Save, Save**

The first thing you need to do is prepare and save. I cannot stress this part enough. This should be anyone’s initial step to moving out. Not only is it good to have a nice cushion of savings when you move, but it is also great when it comes to all those unexpected expenses you will undoubtedly encounter. It is good to always be saving in general, but you do not want to just save for the initial move out and then have nothing left.

This can be done very simply. If you have a full-time job and you are still living with your parents, save 10 to 15 percent of each paycheck you receive in a month. Make a budget for your entertainment and only give yourself a certain amount of money for the month to spend on movies, dining out, concerts, etc. This will also be a big help when you actually do move out and have to budget. After you save that initial 30 percent of your monthly income and you have paid all your other bills for the month (if you have any), you may have room to put a little more away if you please. You can never over save while still living with your parents. Grow that savings account.

**Find a Place you Can Afford**

You have been saving for a while, now it is time to look for a place to live. Whether you are moving into an apartment with friends, an apartment alone, renting a room, or purchasing a home, you must always make sure that you find a place you can afford. A good rule of thumb is to spend no more than 30 percent of your take home income. Aren’t you glad you have already been saving 30 percent?

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/ModestHouse.jpg)

This 30 percent should ideally include utilities as well. Spending 30 percent of your income will leave you a nice cushion to handle other monthly bills, expenses, and allow you to keep up that savings account. Remember that you will have to fork over the first and last month’s rent as well as a security deposit leaving you, or you and your roommates, with a hefty move-in cost. Saving for this initial move in cost is key. You must also take into account where you are planning on living. Big cities tend to have high rent so you might need to spend a little more than 30 percent. This is also where budgeting comes in handy.

**Be Resourceful**

My friend and her boyfriend just bought a house. (Boy, does that make me feel behind in life.)  While checking out her new home she told me that she never realized how many essential things you need to have when you move out and how those things really start to add up cost-wise. I could relate because I went through similar discoveries when I moved out. You never really know when some tape, a screwdriver, or something else you never thought of would come in handy.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Tools.png)

First off, you do not need brand new things when it comes to furnishing your place. Just get it out of your head. Take what you can with you from home: beds, old couches, dressers, lamps, nightstands, desks, TV etc. Ask your family or friends if they have any unused or unwanted furniture, electronics, or appliances. If you and your roommates do this you could save so much money and acquire a large amount of house ware needs. Accumulate the brand new fancy stuff over time. It is a major cost you do not need to take on when you are first moving out.

**All the Extras**

There are sure to be some extra things that cannot be provided by friends and family. Kitchen utensils, pots and pans, towels, shower curtains, tools, little things around the house. [Discount stores](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/discount-stores?ref=blog&ref_post=moving-out-a-manual-for-living-within-your-means) and thrift shops are a great place to buy accents and finishing touches for your new place. My first roommate and I went to Good Will and bought vases, pictures, a dining room table, a George foreman grill, and many other things for about $30 total.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/ThriftShop.jpg)

If thrift shops are not your thing then make sure to find every possible coupon, discount, sale, or deal from your favorite retailers. Also be aware that there will always be little odds and ends that will come up that you need to buy for your new place. But having that nice savings will prepare you for those unexpected costs.

**Budgeting**

Once all the initial move in costs are spent, the place furnished, and all the necessities acquired the only thing left to do is to keep yourself on a budget.  Since you have been saving and budgeting to move into this new place, it should be fairly simple. Know the amount of your bills each month, set an amount for fun, and always, always find the best deals around to save more and spend less.

The good thing about initially moving out is that you will have most of the necessities you need if you move to another place. You will also be aware of the cost of moving, what you can afford, and how to live and budget on your own. The first move is always the most difficult, but it is the best learning experience. Now that you know what you are in for, go on and spread those little wings.  Good luck leaving the nest; I believe in you!

Moving Out: A Manual for Living within Your Means

We want independence and we want it now! We are at or quickly approaching the age where we need to take that giant step out from under our parents’ wing and spread our own. I’m talking about moving out.

We’ve been talking a lot about New Year’s Resolutions here and on the road at some of our favorite morning shows. When I wrote these [savings tips for New Year’s Resolutions](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/new-years-resolutions?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions) I really wanted to make sure to mimic what I would personally be focusing on in 2014. This is going to be a big year for me! I recently got engaged and as I’ve shared before I’m running my first marathon, so here’s how I’ll incorporate these tips into my life in 2014 in a financially responsible way!

**Get in Shape** – Since I will be donning a [wedding dress](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/bridal-and-formal-wear?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions) in 2014, I certainly want to get in better shape. I’m currently more than halfway through marathon training so that definitely helps keep off the pounds! Since I don’t want to spend too much money, I am using the [free Nike Running app](https://www.promocodes.com/nike-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions) to track my miles, courses, calories burned, pace, etc. Running long distances alone can be dangerous and boring, so I’ve been recruiting friends to go with me on my long weekend hauls. I’m also being a little bit more conscious about what I eat (refer to wedding dress comment) so I have been using the [LIVESTRONG MyPlate app](https://www.livestrong.com/myplate/). I put in key information like my age, weight, and desired goals and it tells me how many calories I should eat a day to achieve my goal. It will also calculate any calories burned when working out. So far, so good… but check with me in a month!

**Travel –** Everyone loves to take a vacation now and then and if you frequently travel for work like I do, you rack up quite a few flyer and hotel points. For my birthday in February, I will be able to fly my fiancé and myself to [Las Vegas](https://www.promocodes.com/expedia-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions) for free! Likewise, I’ll be getting a discount at our hotel with my [Hyatt Gold Passport](https://www.promocodes.com/hyatt-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions) points. When we do book our honeymoon though, I certainly plan to follow the advice I always give and use our coupon site to do comparison shop for the [best travel coupons](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/travel?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions)!

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/TravelCandice.jpg)

**Improving Finances –** Being a “savings” expert, one wants to make sure they’re giving good, sound advice and this year I’m really focusing on my finances in a big way. I’m vowing to not put anything on my credit card that I cannot pay off right away, because if I don’t have the money to pay for it, I simply cannot afford it. Likewise, I’m really concentrating on retirement this year. I’m going to do the research to make sure I’m contributing the most to my 401k through work but also work with my financial planner to maximize my other savings accounts. With the wedding happening this year, I’m going to have to remind myself that while it can be easy to go overboard with decorations, vendors and accessories, I have to minimize unnecessary spending.

**Getting Organized –** I’m a pretty clean and organized person, so I try to stay on top of this throughout the year. I do a big closet purge a couple of times a year and last week was my first of 2014. I took some clothes to my local [consignment store](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/consignment-stores?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions) to sell. Usually I make around $100. This time, I only made $40 and while I was bummed it wasn’t more, I also didn’t take as much. Then I went [Goodwill](https://www.goodwill.org/) and donated the rest. Finally, I had some papers lying around in my guest bedroom so I used a [Marshall’s gift card](https://www.promocodes.com/marshalls-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=resolving-to-keep-new-year-resolutions) and purchased organizers for these documents and pretty baskets to keep them in so my guests won’t see my clutter.

I’m looking forward to 2014 and hope that I can truly “practice what I preach.” What are your resolutions for the New Year? Tell me in the comments below!

Resolving to Keep New Year's Resolutions

I recently got engaged and as I’ve shared before I’m running my first marathon, so here’s how I’ll incorporate these tips into my life in 2014 in a financially responsible way.

A friend of mine recently changed jobs and during the period in which she was ineligible for her new employer’s health plan, she opted to take her chances without insurance. So what happened? Two weeks before her new [health insurance](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/health-insurance?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs) was set to kick in, she came down with strep throat.

Luckily, it wasn’t a major medical expense, but no matter what your situation, there are some great ways to save on your health costs. Here is how to reduce your prescription costs:

**Set up a health savings account (HSA)**. An HSA, or health savings account, is a tax-advantaged medical savings account, available to taxpayers who are enrolled in a high-deductible health plan. Contributions are withdrawn pre-tax, and can be used to pay medical expenses, including for things like co-pays, prescription drugs, etc. Unlike an FSA (Flexible Spending Account), HSA contributions do not expire at the end of the year.

**Don't buy glasses/contacts directly from your doctor.** Go online to sites like promocodes.com to find big [discounts on glasses](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/eyeglasses?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs) and [contacts](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/contact-lenses?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs) from stores like Coastal.com. You can currently find a Coastal promo code offering 20% off all prescription glasses and sunglasses (excluding [Oakley’s](https://www.promocodes.com/oakley-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs)) and free shipping. Prescription eyewear is typically 50% less when shopping on Coastal.com vs local retail stores, even without the additional savings. You can also buy a year’s supply of Air Optix Night & Day contacts from Coastal for only $161, which is nearly HALF the cost of what we found when calling a few optometrists’ offices.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Contactss.jpg)

**Comparison shop for prescription drug prices.** Most consumers have no idea that prices for prescription drugs can vary by pharmacy, whether you have insurance or not. It's worth comparison shopping and asking for a discount. Thanks to the Internet, you can research prices not only on TVs, cars and travel, but also on prescription prices.

**Don’t assume insurance will give you the best rate.** If you're insured, don't assume your prescription plan offers the best price. Some high-volume discounters, such as [Costco](https://www.promocodes.com/costco-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs), offer great deals for cash-paying customers, particularly on generic drugs.

**Split your pills / find an alternative.** Another thing you can do is talk to your doctor about your prescription options. Many drugs can be prescribed in a higher dosage and then split. The higher dosage typically costs far less than double the lower dosage, which equals big savings.

**Buy discounted gift cards online.** Visit sites such as [CardCash](https://www.promocodes.com/cardcash-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs) that resell discounted gift cards to find savings up to 30% off of pharmacies such as [Rite-Aid](https://www.promocodes.com/rite-aid-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs), [Walgreen’s](https://www.promocodes.com/walgreens-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs) and [Target](https://www.promocodes.com/target-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-prescription-for-savings-how-to-reduce-your-prescription-costs). Gift cards are re-sold online at a discount and can be used as currency to make your prescription or over-the-counter medication purchases.

A Prescription for Savings: How to Reduce Your Prescription Costs

No matter what your situation, there are some great ways to save on your health costs. Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks for how to reduce your prescription costs

[Getting in shape](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/fitness?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body) is an increasing problem in America. Health studies suggest our living habits have led to a decrease in making smart, healthy lifestyle choices. Growing up, I’ve always been a sports enthusiast. I’ve played [soccer](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/soccer?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body), [basketball](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/basketball?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body), and [softball](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/baseball-and-softball?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body) most of my life then learned to surf and horseback ride before I transitioned to being a second place pole vaulting champion my senior year of high school. Starting college, my fondness for football and volleyball increased, but now, working in the real world, my dietary needs are at a crossroads with how to stay active and balanced.

Like many, I enjoy [working out at the gym](https://www.promocodes.com/24-hour-fitness-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body) but find it a pain to go. My daily exercise routine has turned into about every other day, and the sports I love playing consume too much time trying to balance two jobs. All of these reasons are excuses, though. While there is nothing healthier than a good night’s sleep, eating at [McDonald’s](https://www.promocodes.com/mcdonalds-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body) and driving through Starbucks on the way home from work does not help my exercise regime nor give me the needed energy to take a walk around the block. We all can change our daily habits with a little determination and there are many companies urging us in that direction. All you need is the right fitness technology.

**MIO Alpha** assists in monitoring your exercise routine. Not only has the brand been recognized by top athletes like Chris Leigh, professional tri-athlete runner, but it is also an award-winning heart rate monitoring system for any newbie runner to high-endurance competitor. Created by a young fitness enthusiast, Liz Dickinson, MIO Alpha became the first strapless heart rate monitoring sports watch to provide athletes with a continuous comfortable heartbeat count at a variety of performance levels. It’s advanced LED lights and electro-optical cell technology helps to sense the pulse of blood.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/MioAlphaHeartRate.jpg)

Psychologically speaking, too, the more you are aware of your body, the more you want to take care of it. MIO Alpha heart rate monitors allow people to not have to go to the gym to get the best results. It can be used for sports or calculating the reaction of your heart rate going through its daily routines. Being aware of your body makes working out that much more effective.

You can also physically put your body to the test. **[Total Gym](https://www.promocodes.com/total-gym-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body)** is that in-home training system to fit the workout routine and schedule of anyone. While celebrities have advocated Total Gym, it takes people from every day walks of life to really ensure the product’s success—people like you. Total Gym allows people to work nearly every muscle in their body, from arms and back to chest, legs, and abs, and even provides a routine for daily pilates exercises. The product can be adjusted to fit both men and women and it costs less than a gym membership which requires consistency regardless of your schedule. People can even try Total Gym in a 30 day trial for only a dollar.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/TotalGymXLS.jpg)

I know personally I prefer [working out at home](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/at-home-workouts?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body) than getting dressed and having to drive to the gym. It can be fun at times, especially if you use the “buddy system”, but for the most part I would prefer working out in my PJ’s or watching television in the comfort of my living room while exercising. Sports are one element of exercise where I intend to be social but when I want to target the personal areas of my body, I prefer to do that alone. Total Gym gives people that option, and right now, you can save 50% with the Total Gym XLS trainer during their New Year’s special. With that seasonal offer comes an extra 10% discount on your order, a free AbCrunch, and a free 5 DVD set. This is a savings of over $300 on your workout, not to mention a great way to succumb to the entirety of your New Year’s resolution to get back in shape.

Another neat product on the market that can fit into your home is the **Health Rider** **trainer**. While some equipment focuses on building core strength, this product features ways to boost your cardio. When I played basketball on my high school team, I learned a lot about balancing strength building with cardio—or so I thought. When I trained on my varsity pole vaulting team, I quickly learned the difference. Having played so many team and individual sports, I thought I had a taste of it all, but training for track and field was nothing I had ever felt before. We were in the gym weight lifting, running laps every week day, and doing military-style exercises to increase our vertical and speed. I didn’t intend to, but I lost about ten to fourteen pounds in a month, simply because my running and cardio exercises dramatically increased. While people should not expect those results because body types all vary and the metabolism for individuals rise and fall with age, I learned how important cardio was for my health.

With HealthRider’s “hybrid trainer” product, you can go from a low-impact bicycle workout to an advanced endurance elliptical machine in a matter of minutes. This provides a well-rounded workout without having to leave your house. The company also provides other exercise machines to fit any type of cardio routine and while the prices may be average, it will still be at your convenience, not that of your local gym. You will also be saving money since their quality equipment has a “safe shipping guarantee” and an extended warranty available for your purchase just to be safe.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/HealthRiderTrainer.jpg)

It is important to remember that with finding the right exercise to fit your schedule you also have the proper workout gear. **[Road Runner Sports](https://www.promocodes.com/road-runner-sports-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body)** provides one of the largest, most affordable and fashionable lines of running and walking shoes. This online store also carries quality apparel, footwear, exercise accessories, and basic dietary products such as protein bars, drinks, and chews. You will also find top name brands on their site like [Nike](https://www.promocodes.com/nike-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body), [Adidas](https://www.promocodes.com/adidas-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body), and [Reebok](https://www.promocodes.com/reebok-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=fitting-fitness-technology-for-every-body).

Road Runner Sports’ VIP Membership even gives customers an exclusive first year deal to save 10% on all orders and have access to free shipping year-round. Having access to everything you need for your workout saves you time shopping so you can get out and exercise quicker and more efficiently. It just makes sense to prepare for any activity you take head on.

I think that the brilliance and fun of exercise has long been forgotten by many. We take too casually to our health because we have so much going on in our lives but exercise is exciting! It raises our energy levels and lets us live longer, healthier, independent lifestyles. There is confidence in feeling good when you look sharp and happiness being able to find serenity learning a new skill. The body’s strength in mind and heart is only as powerful as we make it, and there is no better way to start than by getting outside today.

Fitting Fitness Technology for Every Body

We all can change our daily habits with a little determination and there are many companies urging us in that direction. All you need is the right product.

Fitness Fitness Technology for Every Body

They say January is the busiest month for [gyms](https://www.promocodes.com/24-hour-fitness-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=8-low-cost-health-tips-for-2014). I think we all know why. New Year’s resolutions combined with newfound motivation to implement goals. I’m no Dr. Oz, but I do realize the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between fun and [fitness](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/fitness?ref=blog&ref_post=8-low-cost-health-tips-for-2014). So I’ve compiled a few tips—one dash inspiration and one dash information—to get you started on the right track.

The only thing that makes losing weight sweeter is doing it without excessive spending; it’s throwing away your pocket book and crying to the Health Gods “I can do bad all by myself!” And then doing it. Here are eight low-cost health tips to get you started.

**Use printable coupons in health stores.** Right in time for the New Year, there is a [Vitamin Shoppe printable coupon](https://www.promocodes.com/vitamin-shoppe-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=8-low-cost-health-tips-for-2014) for 20 percent off and $5 off, respectively. If your health prerogative involves exponential gym visits and increased vitamin intake, this is just the way to start.

**Clean up.** In a recent blog post, we outlined the virtues of starting the New Year with a fresh start. [Deals at The Container Store](https://www.promocodes.com/the-container-store-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=8-low-cost-health-tips-for-2014) will make it possible for you to declutter and reorganize and clear your mind. What is external influences what is internal, so clear the space and focus. Holiday parties and general mayhem might’ve dirtied up the joint. Fix the problem and get back to neutral.

**Correct your posture.** Muscle imbalance can be a direct result from our daily routines, whether it’s sitting in a desk all day or driving often. Fixing your posture is an easy and cost-free endeavor. Consciously try to sit upright and strengthen weaker muscles, especially within your back.

**Implement a diet regimen.** While it’s easy to snag a deep discount on [Nutrisystem](https://www.promocodes.com/nutrisystem-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=8-low-cost-health-tips-for-2014), some may prefer to go without a program. My brother recently took to eating only raw foods, which as he puts it, provides optimum [vitamins and minerals](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/vitamins-and-supplements?ref=blog&ref_post=8-low-cost-health-tips-for-2014), and it’s the first time in our lives that I’m fatter than him. Kudos, bro. Processed foods are so frequent in society it’s almost impossible to avoid them, but if you can, you’ll be on your way to a natural, less expensive diet regimen.

**Take a selfie every month.** Odds are you have a smartphone and odds are you’re into selfies, because hey, we’re American and that’s what we do. Nevertheless, it can be a great way to measure results. Instead of becoming discouraged by lack of results after a few days, or even weeks, you might be able to see results if you take pictures once a month.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/CocoNUT.jpg)

**Switch to coconut oil.** Yes, even if you’re a dude. Knock off the Vaseline and artificial moisturizers; coconut oil is a suitable replacement considering the health benefits associated with it. Coconut oil contains powerful medicinal properties and fatty acids (not acids that make you fat), hunger-quenching properties, and it lowers risk of heart disease. Coconut oil at [Puritan’s Pride](https://www.promocodes.com/puritans-pride-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=8-low-cost-health-tips-for-2014) ships for free, and a quality sampling costs a little over $10.

**Grab a green juice daily.** It may take the jaws of life to pull you away from your daily coffee, but green juice—more easily downable than munching on raw leaves—allows the body a sufficient supply of chlorophyll, which increases the quality and quantity of your red blood cells. It also improves the efficiency of oxygen transport, giving you more energy and improving your wellbeing.

**Subscribe to the 80/20 rule.** The Bigger Loser’s Jillian Michaels consistently preaches the 80/20 rule—making a wise nutritional choice 80 percent of the time. The other 20 percent of the time you can pig out. She believes it to be the perfect balance, not depriving you but still allowing you to lose weight.

Start slow. If you’re eating more than 4,000 calories, drop it down to 3,000, then lower and lower and lower. It’s always best to become slowly acclimated instead of diving straight in. Hopefully this inspires you to make healthy decisions in 2014.

8 Low-Cost Health Tips

If health is one of your priorities for 2014 then check out these tips to get started on the right track.

So you’ve graduated college. Now what? If you’re anything like me this question’s been plaguing you while nearing the end of your college career and possibly even further back. You really only have two options, if you’re not planning on continuing to further your education after you graduate, that is: either head into the real world and seek employment, or travel. Seems easy enough until you consider two considerable factors: the [job market](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/career-services?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college) and [travel costs](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/travel?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college). There are a couple things to ponder that can make whichever path you choose simpler:

**_Career_**

If you’re choosing to leap into employment, buckle up—it could be a bumpy ride. Diving into the real world can be scary, and it may seem like the perfect job is hard to find. Even if you find it, chances are 10 other recent graduates have it pegged as their dream job. How do you stand out? How do you score an interview? There are a few things you can do.

[Build a stellar resume](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/resume-writing-services?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college). Every position requires you to have experience of some sort. Don’t have any in your field? Internships are excellent resume builders and most will give you hands-on experience that should really benefit your job or life in general. If job prospects are limited, try applying for an internship. You won’t regret the experience and knowledge you gain. Internships also look appealing to potential employers. This will give your resume the extra boost it needs.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/ResumeBuilding1.jpg)

Once you’ve gained some solid experience, you will need to have a solid resume. Your resume is the first impression you have on a potential employer. Blasé, sloppy resumes will quickly be thrown into the trash. If crafting an exceptional resume is not your forte, then seek help from a friend or from websites like Resumes Planet which will help you create that professional-looking resume. Remember, your resume is representing you. You always want to present yourself in the best way possibly to potential employers.

Luckily, we live in the age of the Internet. Job sites like [Monster.com](https://www.promocodes.com/monster-com-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college) allow you to create a profile, provide a little information about yourself, post a picture and post your resume. There are copious job listings on these sites as well as employers seeking candidates to fill their open positions. [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com) allows you to network with companies as well as friends, past coworkers, and even professors. This creates one large social network to seek out potential employers or have them find you. These websites open an even larger span of opportunities.

Make sure to explore every available option when diving into the career world. Finding a job can be a job in itself, so be resourceful, relentless, and persevere.

**_Travel_**

If you choose to travel the world and immerse yourself into every possible culture, then go see the world. You’re young, you have a dearth of commitments, so when is a better time than now? Oh yes … money. We can work this out.

If you haven’t graduated yet and traveling is your dream, start saving. If you have graduated, get a job for a few months and save as much as you can. I’m sure you will also be showered with graduation cards that carry a pretty penny. Combine this with your savings and you will be on your way to purchasing a one way ticket to the destination of your dreams. And this doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Search through all possible sites like [Kayak](https://www.promocodes.com/kayak-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college) or even [Priceline](https://www.promocodes.com/priceline-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college). They’ll get you competitive, cost-effective rates for every facet of travel.

Once you’ve reached your destination, backpack around. Work your way through Europe, Asia, Africa, or wherever it is that you go. One of the only ways to truly immerse yourself in a culture is to live, work, eat, sleep, and breathe it. Working your way through countries and cities will not only take you from place to place, but instill in you new ways of life, new languages, and a new way to look at the world. Imagine the stories you will create and carry with you for a lifetime. Not to mention that some of this will probably look great on a resume.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/CollegeTravel.jpg)

If you’re not the [backpacking-through-Europe](https://www.promocodes.com/hostel-world-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college) type and prefer experiencing countries and cultures in a somewhat structured, organized way, there are reasonable options to you at reasonable prices. [Expedia](https://www.promocodes.com/expedia-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college), [Travelocity](https://www.promocodes.com/travelocity-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=choosing-a-path-after-college), and other budget-oriented websites are there to help you plan your trips smoothly and affordably. Whether it is back packing and working your way from place to place or planning an extensive trip to see the world, nothing will beat the stories, experiences, and knowledge you will gain.

Don’t be plagued by the phrase “Now what?” You do not have to be stuck at that fork in the road now that college is over. Roll up your sleeves and get to work or go explore the world. Your life is really just beginning and a brilliant story will unfold, no matter which path you choose.

Fork in the Road: Choosing a Path After College

So you’ve graduated college. Now what? If you’re anything like me this question’s been plaguing you while nearing the end of your college career and possibly even further back.

What's the most popular [resolution](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/new-years-resolutions?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014) for 2014? Anyone? That's right, it's [spending less and saving more](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/7-habits-of-highly-effective-frugalists). When you look back on your spending in 2013, do you feel queasy? Are there thousands of transactions that needlessly went into oblivion, gone forever without a trace? Don't feel bad. There's a reason why it's the third most popular resolution.

The first step before going into the new year is figuring out where you stand financially—where your money has been going and where you can start saving. The second step is organization, which means writing down your goals and jotting notes while reading these real budgeting tips for the new year:

**Pay [auto insurance](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/auto-insurance?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014) annually.** Many providers give big discounts to customers who pay car insurance policy premiums all at once, rather than monthly. In addition, it’ll help you avoid monthly fees, such as installment fees, and frees up the entire year of having to remember to make the payment. Rather than worrying about that one more thing on your budget, take it out in one shot.

**Alter your current wardrobe, as opposed to paying for a new one.** Alterations can save you money. The default response to not fitting into your wardrobe anymore is to go right out and buy new clothes. Extend the life of your clothing by having a tailor accommodate your new bulk or slim. This info can come of use when you implement your most dire resolution—to lose weight, or eat like a maniac.

**Analyze your spending from 2013.** Go through your monthly bills and see which ones aren’t worth it. You are essentially putting plugs in your money leaks. From there, track your spending in the first few months of 2014. You might become aware of spending habits that absolutely kill your budget.

**Negotiate lower rates for the essentials.** Fixed expenses—your cable, your auto insurance, your [cell phone plan](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/cell-phone-plans?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014)—are often negotiable. Dedicate one week to each bill and try to shrink them. You might be surprised to learn how much you’ve been neglecting the health of your budget all along, as lowering your monthly expenses by $100 can add up to $1,200 over the course of the year.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/sscale1.jpg)

**Lose weight and spend less, simultaneously.** The most effective way to [lose weight](https://www.promocodes.com/weight-watchers-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014) is to eat less. The most effective way to trim unnecessary fat from your budget is to [spend less on food](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/food-and-drink?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014). It’s a win-win for those with financial resolutions as well as health resolutions. Every time you skimp on proportions remember that you’re knocking out two birds with one stone. Also, being healthy in general saves you money, as it’s less likely you’ll make visits to the doctor and spend money on medications.

**[Brew your own coffee](https://www.promocodes.com/blue-bottle-coffee-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014).** You spend $4 a day on coffee. There are 365 days in a year. That means you spend $1,460 a year buying from your favorite barista. It’s time to reconsider that relationship.

**Visit the library.** The library is a “save” haven. I go to the library at least twice a week to scour the shelves for free books, DVDs and CDs. If you live in a major city, odds are there is more than one. This means there is infinite variety. Well, not infinite. But close. The library is like a soup kitchen for media hounds. Treat it as such.

**Buy quality instead of quantity.** For products that call for it. I bought a pair of new shoes recently that went for a mere $20. The trouble is they’re already weathered and beaten. Frugality doesn’t mean spending less, although often it does. It means getting the best value for your money. Sometimes paying more will save you in the long run.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/PackedLunch.jpg)

**Pack a lunch.** Obviously, this takes time. And some of us simply don’t have the time. Start small: Packing your lunch once or twice a week can save you big over the course of the year. These could count as leftovers, of which you’ll have a lot due to adhering to the fifth tip. After tracking your decreased spending during the first month, you’ll see a big drop in spending, which you can use as motivation to continue on.

**Splurge cheaply.** Deal sites, such as [promocodes.com](https://www.promocodes.com/?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014), come as a serious boon for consumers. It’s the only way to get the lowest price when spending discretionary income. Sites that cater to the local like [Groupon](https://www.promocodes.com/groupon-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014) and [Living Social](https://www.promocodes.com/livingsocial-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=real-budgeting-tips-for-2014) deliver fantastically cheaper prices on haircuts, vacations, dinners and many other high-priced excursions. There is always a coupon or deal available—a decidedly sweet alternative to paying full price.

**Go generic.** Cereal. Soda. Pantry staples. Medication. The word _generic_ just has a negative connotation to it. And that’s exactly the plan. Stores don’t want you to know generics are often made with the exact same ingredients as their branded counterparts. Cereal, for instance, is 25 to 50 percent cheaper, and often comes in a bigger package. The Food and Drug Administration requires generics to have the same active ingredients as patented medications, so you can save substantially by going for generic over-the-counter medications every time. The same applies to baby formula, batteries, makeup, electronic cables, and even gasoline.

11 Real Budgeting Tips for the New Year

The first step before taking a step into the New Year is figuring out where you stand financially—where your money has been going and where you can start saving. The second step is organization, which means writing down your goals and jotting down notes while reading the following budgeting tips.

People say _spring cleaning_ right? Well I say _New Year’s cleaning_! I will be the first to admit that I am a germaphobe, therefore I enjoying cleaning probably a little more than the average person. Nonetheless, I think that starting the New Year off by doing a little reorganization and cleaning is just what we need to make 2014 the best year yet!

My apartment is probably the epitome of disorganization caused by the holiday season. Not only do I have suitcases and clothes sprawled every which way as a result of my week vacation home in my room, but I have a very dead Christmas tree in my family room, which we decided to leave up probably a week too long because it looked so cute. If you can imagine, I feel pretty anxious with all the mess and cannot wait to get to the cleaning and redecorating. Get an inside look at what I will be doing tomorrow to start off the year!

**Cleanup**

_Christmas Tree_

As of right now, I am most concerned with our Christmas tree because it is so brittle, so I am hoping that we will be able to complete the take down process tonight before our New Years Eve festivities begin since I started the extensive process already. If you didn’t use a tree trash bag like us, then I recommend cutting as many of the branches off that you can prior to taking the tree out. If you have branch clippers, grab them because this will save you hours! I cut our branches off with scissors, and I am left today with a very sore thumb. My last piece of advice for this part of the clean up is to use a broom and pan for all of the needles. Your standard vacuum isn’t really equipped to handle needles, and I don’t want you having to spend money on a brand new one in January.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/HC1.jpg)

_Apartment_

The holidays came through like a storm and did not leave much time for cleaning, so everything has been done with minimal effort for the past month, but now anymore! I am very excited to start using all the great tips I have been collecting on green cleaning! It gets expensive buying cleaning products, and honestly I don’t really like the way they work.

_Shower_

The technique that I am extremely excited to start implementing in the New Year is keeping a refillable sponge, filled with ½ vinegar, ½ water in the shower, so that my roommates and I can clean the shower whenever is convenient for us. It will also be easier to clean because since the shower is running with hot water, any buildup in your shower is loosened, giving you an better clean!

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/HC2.png)

_Kitchen_

For the [kitchen](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/kitchenware?ref=blog&ref_post=cheers-to-a-clean-and-fresh-start-to-2014), I will again be attacking the dirt and smells with vinegar. Luckily we did do a very good cleaning before we left, so everything is still pretty clean but could still use a nice refresher. The garbage disposal is a constant battle for us, so my new trick is freezing vinegar, lemon slices, and water in ice cubes and using them to freshen up the disposal. If you worried about clogging, then try just using lemon juice! Not only will your sink smell better, but the ice will also help sharpen up the blades!

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/HCc3.jpg)

_Family Room_

Like mine, your family room is probably the most frequented room in the house. It is where you eat, hang out, watch TV, and unwind. Up until now, I have just been vacuuming and wiping down the surfaces to keep the dirt and dust under control, but I have recently been reintroduced to Murphy’s Soap, and cannot wait to tackle our floors tomorrow!  It is gentle and does an amazing job cleaning! You can get [Amazon deals](https://www.promocodes.com/amazon-com-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=cheers-to-a-clean-and-fresh-start-to-2014) and. [Wal-Mart coupons](https://www.promocodes.com/walmart-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=cheers-to-a-clean-and-fresh-start-to-2014).

**Organization**

I could write a whole separate blog on how I could reorganize my life, so for the sake of this article, I will just focus on a little part: my room. A cross-country move and a recent trip home for Christmas have left my room in shambles. I think five months is long enough to not have a solid storage method in place.

[My closet is tiny](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/organization-storage-solutions?ref=blog&ref_post=cheers-to-a-clean-and-fresh-start-to-2014), so I found some great tips to get things off the floor and onto hangers so that I don’t lose sight of them. For starters, I am going to hang all of my scarves and purses on Command Hooks lining the inside of my closet. This way I have easy access!

My other problem area is the top of my dresser! From jewelry to candles to note cards, I am lucky that I can find what I am looking for. After 5 months without it, I finally have my beautiful mirror back that will store all my jewelry in one place! Although it is a tad expensive up front, I promise you that as soon as it comes in the mail, you will become as obsessed with it as I am! Mine is from QVC, and it comes in many different colors to match any décor! Once mine gets to Santa Monica, I will finally be able to finish decorating my room and putting everything in its correct place!

The New Year always means new beginning, so I cannot wait to freshen my apartment up and go into 2014 reenergized and focused! What are you looking forward to doing on New Years Day? Will you be _New Years Cleaning_ as well? Share below!

Cheers to a Clean and Fresh Start to the New Year!

Got a messy house after the holidays? Use these tips to get your New Year's cleaning done.

The New Year will soon be knocking on our front door, and with the celebration just around the corner it is time to get those resolutions in order. With each passing year there are always those one or two resolutions that continue to make the top of our list, but once the New Year starts they are quickly forgotten.

I am no stranger when it comes to having recurring New Year’s resolutions and one of my resolutions this year is to actually implement all my constantly recycled resolutions in 2014. I’m here to help you put your straggling resolutions into action as well. If one of these five common New Year’s resolutions is popping up on your list year after year, here are some ways to actually implement them smoothly into your life and look back on 2014 feeling accomplished.

**Losing Weight**

This resolution never fails to be at the top of my list every year. Maybe it’s to make myself feel better about indulging (or over-indulging) in all of the holiday feasts. The most important thing to remember is when January first hits, you should take small steps toward your weight loss goal. Starting off small can lead to a large success at the end of the year. Making small changes to your diet or exercise routines and then building overtime will make it an easier process and will not end up overwhelming you. When you take on too much at once you will end up pushing this resolution to the side once again.

All programs are designed to work with your hectic day-to-day life, leaving nothing to stop you from living the healthier life you want to lead in 2014.

**Saving Money**

When the end of the year rolls around we take a look back at our spending and always make a note that we want to spend less and save more in the New Year. Saving money is not only a constant New Year’s resolution on the top of everyone’s list, but when implemented it can become someone’s way of life.

There are many ways that money can be saved and most are very simple. Go into 2014 with the plan of just saving all of your coins for a year; that change can really add up to leave you with a nice full jar at the end of the year. Hundreds can be made using your unused coins. Also, saving money does not mean you have to cut out indulgence. A little discount goes a long way. Here at promocodes.com, thousands of your favorite stores are offering savings all year round.

Here is a fun way to save: look at the original price of how much you are willing to spend on an item and then look at how much you save with coupons and deals offered by your favorite retailers; put the difference into a savings account and see how much of a savvy saver you have been by the end of the year.

**Learning Something New**

Let’s face it—each year we think ourselves boring and always want to spice up life by learning something new. We want to finally learn to speak a second language, try that bartending class, and take a cooking class. Companies like [Living Social](https://www.promocodes.com/livingsocial-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=implementing-recycled-resolutions-in-2014) and [Groupon](https://www.promocodes.com/groupon-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=implementing-recycled-resolutions-in-2014) have always been excellent in providing amazing deals for anything and everything around any one city or even cheap destinations to an exotic location. There are always great class offerings that save you a bundle and this way you can have enough money in your New Year’s budget to try more than one new thing. If you don’t happen to like what you learned, you can at least be happy with the fact that you saved a bunch of money and can try to learn something else.

**Spending More Time with Family**

More family time is another resolution that tops most peoples’ lists. Sadly, this is pushed aside when life continues to chug on and we have to continue on with our responsibilities at work, school or otherwise. Don’t let a hectic life be the reason for cutting back on family time because these are moments you will never get back.

Try planning a family night every week, every other week, or even once a month. Make dinners together, play board games, or find a new movie or TV series to get lost in on [Netflix](https://www.promocodes.com/netflix-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=implementing-recycled-resolutions-in-2014). Little nightly activities can be easy additions to achieve spending more time with family.

Plan a family vacation in 2014. Family trips do not have to be expensive; take a little road trip, a small weekend trip, and find family vacation packages that offer everything in one for an affordable price.  Making more time for family can be simple, all you have to do is start small and the family time will continue to increase throughout the year.

**[Traveling](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/travel?ref=blog&ref_post=implementing-recycled-resolutions-in-2014)**

Because many want to spend less and save more in the New Year, their plan of traveling to new places quickly goes out the window. Traveling doesn’t have to be to some far away exotic land; it could just be visiting a new place, and that place doesn’t have to be far. Plan short little jaunts to a different part of your state, visit a national park, go to a beach or a lake and pick up a post card from every new place you see.

Before long the travel bug will set in and little trips could turn into plans for bigger trips farther away. A big trip does not have to break the bank either. [Southwest Airlines](https://www.promocodes.com/southwest-airlines-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=implementing-recycled-resolutions-in-2014) always offers great promotions and sites like [Priceline.com](https://www.promocodes.com/priceline-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=implementing-recycled-resolutions-in-2014) always help their customers find the best deals. Travel for less in 2014 whether you take on a small journey or a big one.

While all these are helpful tips for implementing your New Year’s resolutions, the main key to implementing all five of these New Year’s resolutions is to start off slowly. Do not bring on more than you can handle. Starting slowly and minimally and then gradually adding on will help you maintain these resolutions throughout the year and beyond.
