Putting the Lids on This Week's Tip Jars: March 7, 2014

Happy Friday! Hopefully you are all enjoying the first week of March. It is almost spring, and we can already feel the excitement in the air of the aproaching warm weather, Spring Break, and of course, summer. Don’t forget to change your clocks on Sunday; we are springing forward! In addition to all of the fun things that spring will be bringing, we will be sure to update you on the best deals to jumpstart your spring cleaning and the new season! As always, please have an amazing and fun weekend savvy savers!

Finding the perfect pair of flats can be exhausting and when you need flats for different occasions, it can get very expensive, fast. If you don’t want to buy fancy flats that you may only wear once or twice, just spice up your plain ones! All you have to do is buy clip on earrings that fit the occasion and then add them to your shoes. This way they look nicer, but you can also interchange the clips when you need to. Check out Nordstrom’s clip on earrings for some inspiration!

Making salads for lunch is always the healthier option, but it isn’t always the tastiest, especially when it gets soggy and brown. This trick will save you time having to make a new salad every day and also money because you won’t have to throw it out before you actually finish it. The next time you want to make a big bowl, layer two paper towels on top of the lettuce and then seal the bowl with plastic wrap to keep any air out. By adding the paper towels, you are allowing them to collect any moisture in the bowl, rather than the lettuce, extending the life of your salad.

If you are a big fan of cooking and herbs, then you will love this trick! Not only will you have cooking oil ready to go, but you can also preserve some of your favorite herbs after you remove them from your garden! It is easy and extremely convenient. All you have to do is fill an ice tray up with olive oil, add your herbs like rosemary, sage, cover the tray in plastic wrap, and then freeze. You can store your cooking cubes in a freezer bag and use when you need.

It is almost that time again for gardening and yard work to begin, so definitely keep this trick in mind! Nothing is worse than bugs eating your freshly bloomed flowers and plants, and leaving you with a bare garden for the rest of summer. This year, try leaving crushed up eggshells around your garden to deter slugs, snails, and cutworms. Since these types of bugs tend to have soft undersides, the sharp edges of the eggshells may keep them from destroying your plants and flowers.

Getting facials can add up quickly when you get them on a regular basis, but there are definitely other at home options to revitalize your skin. A recent favorite of ours is this cinnamon, nutmeg, honey mask! It will help calm your inflammation and will make your skin feel and look great! All you have to do is mix together 2 tablespoons of Honey, 1 teaspoon of Cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of Nutmeg and leave it on your face for 30 minutes to an hour before rinsing it off. You can repeat this a few times a week or leave it for a special occasion!
