Putting the Lids on This Week's Tip Jars: January 31, 2014

Happy Super Bowl Weekend! Whether you are into the game, the commercials, or our personal favorite, the Puppy Bowl, we hope that you have fun plans to celebrate. Here in the office, we are throwing a Super Bowl Party to get pumped up for the big game and celebrate a great month here in the office! Check back for pictures from the party and of our decked out office. In addition to all the football excitement, our office is finding you the best Valentines Day deals! We want you and your Valentines to have the best holiday yet! Have a fun and safe weekend! If you are one of the lucky ones heading to New Jersey for the big game, stay warm!

Especially with the game this weekend, cooking and having a bunch of people in and out of your house can leave a funky smell. Instead of buying a ton of store spray, go into your fridge and pull out those juicy oranges. Once you have eaten them, grab your leftover peels and start boiling them with a teaspoon of cinnamon on medium heat. In a matter of no time, your home will be filled with a wonderful fragrance that cost you next to nothing! You get your daily fruit intake and a room scent in one.

Going out to dinner is expensive and often times not that healthy for you, but sometimes it is just too hard to resist. Next time you do go out, consider splitting your meal in half when you get it. By portioning it, you are not only cutting your caloric intake, but you are also saving money because you get an extra meal for the next day! You could also even split a plate with someone you are eating with to lower your costs.

Phone bills and data costs are soaring through the roof. It is time to start being smarter about the way we use our phones, instead of incurring extra fees at the end of the month when we go over on our minutes. A great way to save your data minutes is using free Wi-Fi when it is available. Check your settings and switch the Wi-Fi button on. This will allow you to connect to the open networks in your area. If you don’t feel safe accessing all the unsecure networks all the time, turn it on when you want to use it. Just be careful sharing private information over any unsecure networks.

I love leather products of all sorts, and like many people, I run into issues sometimes with stains, whether it be on my shoes, jacket, or accessories. My most recent mishap was with a beautiful tan hobo wallet. This trick completely fixed the problem! I opened my purse to find that some salad dressing dripped, so I immediately soak up the stain with a microfiber cloth by dabbing lightly. Then I followed up with baby powder on the spot over night. In the morning I gently brushed off the powder and the stain is almost completely unnoticeable!

By showering twice a day, you not only waste water, but you also run the risk of damaging your hair by stripping it of it essential nutrients and drying it out. Being smarter about your showering schedule will definitely leave your wallet happier at the end of the month because your water bill will most likely be lower, and you won’t have to buy shower products as often. You might even find that your hair looks better with less washings in a week!

Have a great weekend!
