Puma was born out of the ambition of two brothers in Bavaria who wanted to make world-class running spikes for track and field athletes. After garnering success among German runners they broke out in the international spectrum of awareness when Jesse Owens went on to win four Gold Medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics wearing their running spikes. Somewhere along the way there was a disagreement between the two brothers and one went on to form Puma, the other starting Adidas.
After the split, Puma launched toward further success by making cleats for German soccer teams which performed well across Europe and in international tournaments. From then on Puma would be a mainstay in the world of soccer, continuing to sponsor professional athletes and teams around the world. However, Puma doesn’t specialize solely in soccer cleats, they have plenty of other fantastic footwear choices. Puma makes athletic wear for all sports, but also manufactures sneakers for streetwear lines which have seen global success.
