4 Ways you can Wear Lingerie as Outerwear Without Being Too Risqué

For decades celebrities and designers have been making a point about wearing underwear as outerwear. Dolce & Gabbana often let lace bras peek through dresses, Courtney love is famous for wearing a slip dress and Madonna along with Jean Paul Gaultier made a huge statement with the cone bra. This trend is definitely not a new one and still holds reign. It’s one to love in and out of the bedroom.

Wearing lingerie for all to see takes some careful thought. There’s a fine line between classy and tacky, and it takes a certain attitude to make your bra-on-show look seem intentional and not like an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction. It’s easier to achieve than one might think, all it takes is a little confidence.

I cannot think of a better place to shop for this trend than Victoria’s Secret, really, who doesn’t own a Victoria’s Secret piece?

Hosiery

Playing with hosiery is the easiest way to add a bit of sexy to any outfit whether casual or dressy. Wear opaque thigh-highs and booties like Megan Fox to jazz up an everyday outfit. For a retro look, pair lace thigh-highs and suspenders with a mini dress or skirt. Not daring enough to show this much leg? Add trouser socks to any dress/heel combo for extra flare and warmth or wear patterned stockings.

Right: Victoria’s Secret Lace-Top Stockings are perfectly paired with suspenders and can be worn with a mini dress.

Silky Slips

Nothing is sexier than a silk dress whether it is fitted or a bit relaxed. For a more wearable look pair a slip with a leather or denim jacket and heels or flats. Your outfit will not only be effortless but will also make you feel instantly sexier.

Victoria’s Secret Lace Appliqué Satin Slip will allow you to mix fabrics for a seductive but modest feel.

Bralettes as Tops

Crop tops are all the rage right now and are best paired with a high-waisted bottom and jacket for a more appropriate look. Go a little out of your comfort zone and pair any one of these tops over a t-shirt or button-up top for a dressier look.

Left: Victoria’s Secret Long Line Push-Up Balconet will immediately create a boudoir feel.

Right: Victoria’s Secret Lace Bustier Top features a peplum for an ultra feminine appeal.

Play Peek-a-boo

A really subtle way to let your lingerie show is to pick out slightly sheer fabrics to wear on the top. Show an eye-catching bra that deserves to be seen by wearing a light-weight, off-the shoulder cotton top. The key here is to wear neon, patterned or lace bras. Keep the outfit simple and mostly monochrome.
