While Breast Cancer Awareness Month is probably one of the biggest and most successful campaigns to support research and treatment for a specific disease during the year, the impact of these companies can be increased exponentially with a few smart buys on our part… year-round.

Don’t get us wrong, anything helps. But why not give back more when you’re shopping for shoes in, say, August? Or buying a gift in February? We say, make it all count! Here are a few examples of companies that go beyond October to give back to the cause:

  • Alex and Ani donates year-round to the cause, and has pledged a minimum donation of $25,000 for breast cancer research. Please keep in mind that you must purchase a special bangle for this one to count towards the donated amount.
  • Jelly Belly Candy Company donates whenever you buy a bag of their Fruit Punch Sports Beans.
  • New Balance donates a minimum of $500K to Susan G. Komen each year for the “Lace Up for a Cure” Collection. One of our favorite pairs is the Pink Ribbon 990v4 Running Shoe.
  • Bobbi Brown sells a special Pink Peony Illuminating Bronzer that supports the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Don’t forget to volunteer

Not everything  has to do with buying stuff: for example, you can volunteer with a support group purely to help people who have been diagnosed. Don’t be afraid that you have no experience in this area, either -- a lot of people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, or who have just finished treatment, need to speak to someone fresh.

Get active

The number of run/walks to benefit cancer grow every year, and it’s a good way to get (and stay) active year-round. Give back through donations; set yourself a goal of miles, numbers of runs, or donors, and then get busy. You can pair this with a purchase that supports your cause, like pink run gear, special branded sneakers (like New Balance), or even headphones.

Take a closer look at the charities you support

Did you know that some breast cancer charities don’t get the best scores for the way they manage funds? Check for transparency, for spending on programs and on salaries, and for accountability. Ensure that your money will be used in the best way, so that each dollar makes the biggest impact possible.

Here at Promocodes.com, we believe that shopping can give back to our community in a serious way, which is why we look for shops and programs that make a difference by going above and beyond all year long. Most importantly, we believe in treating yourself while helping others, so Happy Shopping… and Giving!
