It’s that time of year – the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and the kids are home from school. It’s a great time to be alive, and in a world with so much to do, finding entertainment can be a little overwhelming. Planning things to do can also be, well, a bit expensive. Just paying for yourself to do things quickly gets pricey, but paying for your entire family can burn a hole in your pocket in a few mouse clicks. Luckily, with the summer also comes great deals and discounts. Even better? Some of the best things in life are free!

### **Parks and Beaches**

**![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/beach-trip.jpg)**

Both parks and beaches are classic locations to bring the family when the weather is nice. At a park, you can have picnics, barbecues, and reunions while playing backyard sports and enjoying time with as many people as you can invite. Most parks are free to enter, and provide lots of open space for the family to use. Additionally, many parks close at sundown, meaning you can spend an entire day there with your family!

Beaches are similar to parks in that they are also great for barbecues, sports, and the like with the additional benefit of having water close by. On particularly hot days, beaches may provide a fantastic alternative to parks. Although they can be a bit more crowded and cramped, beaches can be awesome places to take the greatest nap of your life. While they’re usually free for walk-ins, sometimes you’ll have to pay for parking.

### **Outdoor Concerts**

**![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/outdoor-concert-trip.jpg)**

For the music-loving family, outdoor concerts can be a blast. Usually, they go hand in hand with parks and beaches, where open-air stages and standing crowds provide a unique experience. Many outdoor concerts are either free or dirt cheap, and although the performers aren’t the hottest chart toppers, these are great opportunities to listen to some local talent. If you’re lucky, a concert by an older artist may open up near you. Chaka Khan recently performed by me in Brooklyn, and it was absolutely free!

### **Barbecues**

**![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Family-bbq.jpg)**

Also related to parks and beaches is the barbecue. However, to have fun with a barbecue you don’t even have to leave your house! Wherever you decide to throw one, a barbecue is a chance to get your family and friends together to enjoy a hallowed pastime – eating good food. Although the food isn’t free, the price of having a barbecue can be as cheap or expensive as you like, depending on how many people you choose to invite.

### **Museums**

**![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/museum-trip.jpg)**

Museums are wonderful places to bring the kids. Yet, any member of the family can have a fun time while learning something. There are museums dedicated to everything – art, history, nature, science, photography; you name it, and there’s a museum for it somewhere. Some museums are actually quite expensive, but the larger and more famous ones generally function on donations. This means that a family can pay whatever they’d like to gain access to some of the greatest museums in the world. Places such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History in New York City can only cost a few dollars per person!

### **Hikes**

**![Family hikes](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/family-hikes.jpg)**

Outdoorsy families will find hiking to be a very gratifying experience. Trails are usually free to enter, and a family can spend the day wandering through the beauty of nature. Oftentimes there is a great view at the end. This may not be suitable for families with smaller children and strollers, but for anybody willing to make a trek, hiking is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

### **Bicycle Trips**

**![Family Bike Trips](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/family-bike-rides.jpg)**

Bicycle trips provide a nice cross between hikes and road trips in that a family can enjoy the feeling of fresh air while going a reasonable distance. Whether you live in the city or the countryside, you can take your bicycle as far as you’re willing to go. The best part? Even if a family doesn’t have their own bicycles, bike rentals for a 24-hour period can be relatively cheap and easy to arrange.

Family Fun in the Sun (That Doesn’t Break the Bank)

It’s that time of year – the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and the kids are home from school. Planning entertainment for your entire family can be overwhelming and burn a hole in your pocket. Luckily, with the summer also comes great deals and discounts. Some of the best things in life are free so check out our suggestions for inexpensive family fun this summer!

Maybe you’re like me, and you live in a place with long winters.  Currently, you’re rejoicing over the fact that you can finally get outside and enjoy the weather. Alternately, you could be somebody who lives in a place that’s warm year-round – if that’s the case, good job choosing a home!  Either way, the ability to go outside presents different opportunities for travel. Riding a bicycle is an ever-popular method of getting around town due to its speed, efficiency, and general ease. Although high-end bicycles can be expensive, the good news is that for $400 or less you can purchase a sturdy bicycle that will perform in whatever way you need.  We’ve assembled the [best bikes under $400](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/bikes-cycling-gear?ref=blog&ref_post=best-bikes-under-400) to help you get out of the house and onto the seat.

### **Best Mountain Bikes Under $400**

So maybe you’re not climbing mountains, but you appreciate a rough trail every once in awhile. For under $400, you can have a great bike that will handle most off-road activity. Although these bikes do not have the full suspension systems of their more expensive counterparts, they are capable and generally composed of high quality parts.

### **Solid Choice: Forge Sawback Hard Trail Mountain Bike**

![Forge-Sawback-Hard-Trail-Mountain-Bike](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Forge-Sawback-Hard-Trail-Mountain-Bike.jpg)

[This bicycle can be had for $339.00 through Target](https://www.promocodes.com/target-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=best-bikes-under-400), and is an extremely popular entry-level mountain bike. Reviewers praise the fact that its components come from reputable manufacturers: the chain is made by Shimano, the seat and rims are from WTB, the disc brakes are from AVID, and it sits on Ninja tires. The Forge Sawback is good for riding and provides excellent comfort through its front suspension system. Depending on your bicycle weight preference, you may find yourself upgrading the fork, pedals, or tires.  However, the bike serves its purpose well out of the box, and you will likely be quite happy with your purchase if you plan to simply buy and ride.

### **Alternative: Mongoose Dolomite 26” Fat Tire Bike**

**![Mongoose-Dolomite-26-Fat-Tire-Bike](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Mongoose-Dolomite-26-Fat-Tire-Bike.jpg)**

Perhaps you want something a bit _different_.  If so, then look no further – this [Mongoose Fat Tire Bike, for $325.85 on eBay](https://www.promocodes.com/ebay-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=best-bikes-under-400), offers a unique riding experience.  Fat tire bikes are becoming more popular, and reviewers consistently mention the ‘cool’ factor of this bike. The tires allow the bike to maintain traction on sand and snow, and it’s apparently very comfortable to ride. The downside here is weight; this fat tire bike is very heavy. Buy this bike if you want something that’ll draw curious gazes (as long as your idea of off-roading does not involve steep hills). Although the weight of this bike reduces some of its functionality, its primary purpose is fun, and it accomplishes that very well.

### **Best Commuter Bikes Under $400**

Instead of exploring the literal jungle, your needs may be centered around the urban jungle. If you plan to use a bike for commuting, it should be lightweight, durable, and fast. Sub-$400, there are some great bikes on the market for just this purpose!

### **Solid Choice: Diamondback Edgewood Complete Hybrid Bicycle**

![Diamondback Edgewood-Complete-Hybrid-Bicycle](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Diamondback Edgewood-Complete-Hybrid-Bicycle.jpg)

A “hybrid bicycle” combines components from different kinds of bike; generally these are mountain bikes, road bikes, and touring bikes.  As such, they make great commuter bikes by blending the best of all worlds. For $349.00, the Diamondback Edgewood Hybrid Bicycle can be had from [Dick’s Sporting Goods](https://www.promocodes.com/dicks-sporting-goods-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=best-bikes-under-400).  Almost all reviews come to the same conclusion: this bike is good.  It may not be the flashiest or most exciting bicycle on the market, but it is lightweight, strong, fast, and good at stopping (which is important for urban commuters).  The downsides?  It is complicated to assemble and comes without a kickstand.  Still, it is suitable for casual riders of any experience level and is highly recommended as a great buy in the price range.

### **Alternative: Diamondback Wildwood Classic Comfort Bike**

![Diamondback-Wildwood-Classic-Comfort-Bike](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Diamondback-Wildwood-Classic-Comfort-Bike.jpg)

If your commutes are on the shorter side, you may want to consider this bike over the Diamondback Hybrid Bicycle.  It costs $299.99 at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and has received equally excellent reviews.  There are a few key differences between the two bikes: the Comfort Bike is slightly heavier, slightly slower, and provides a more upright riding position.  It is more focused on comfort than speed, so if time is not of the essence in your commute then this is your bike.  Again, the Comfort Bike comes with no kickstand, and there have been several reviews recommending a brake alignment upon purchase.  Regardless, this bike is widely loved for cruising around town and actually enjoying the ride.

### **Best Road Bikes for Under $400**

If you aren’t concerned with commuting or off-roading, you may want to cruise on smooth roads at high speeds and feel the wind in your face.  Road bikes are made for lightness, speed, and efficiency.  They generally lack suspensions and have a drop handlebar (the kind that curls downwards).  Top end road bikes can have titanium or carbon fiber frames, but in the $400 price range steel and aluminum frames work great for entry-level bikes.

### **Solid Choice: Giordano Libero Road Bike**

**![Giordano-Libero-Road-Bike](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Giordano-Libero-Road-Bike.jpg)**

Admittedly, this bike is slightly over $400 – it can be purchased for $449.99 at Amazon. If you can foot the extra $49.99, then the Giordano Libero is definitely worth it. Reviewers love its lightweight aluminum frame (which comes in three sizes) and its Shimano racing gear shifters.  Moreover, the bike has a comfortable seat and is reportedly easy to assemble.  The build quality on this bicycle is great, and it has higher-end looks to complement its functionality.  Some more avid riders recommend upgrading the brakes upon purchase, but besides that it’s hard to go wrong with the Giordano Libero.

### **Alternative: Forge CTS 1000 Road Racing Bike**

**![Forge-CTS-1000-Road-Racing-Bike](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Forge-CTS-1000-Road-Racing-Bike.jpg)**

If you’re not too concerned with style points and exotic names, then the Forge CTS 1000 will suit your needs perfectly well. For $359.00 at Target, it’s significantly cheaper than the Giordano Libero.  It has 24 gear speeds and also features an aluminum frame. Shimano makes the derailleurs and shifters, while the rims are made from metal alloy. As a result, the Forge CTS 1000 is lightweight, fast, and serves multiple needs, from commuting and scenic riding to beginner bike racing.  Reviewers feel that it fits them well across varying body types/sizes.  Although it may be less exciting than the Giordano, the Forge CTS 1000 is equally dependable.

Of course, if you’re willing to spend more than $400, there are some extremely high quality and specialist machines for sale on the bicycle market.  Yet, for $400 you can purchase a durable and functional bike that will serve whatever need you have to fulfill. You may ride for utilitarian reasons, or you may be a beginner in competitive cycling. No matter the situation, a $400 budget is an excellent starting point to get you out and riding!

Best Bikes Under $400

Riding a bicycle is an ever-popular method of getting around town due to its speed, efficiency, and general ease. The good news is that for $400 or less you can purchase a sturdy bicycle that will perform in whatever way you need. We’ve assembled the best bikes under $400 to help you get out of the house and onto the seat.

It has been said that, “Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer”. As I have been making my way through my early to mid-thirties, this is a philosophy that I have wholeheartedly adopted. I have committed myself to taking at least one trip outside of the US each year. That may sound advantageous (and expensive), but if planned properly, it is completely doable and affordable.

Last summer I traveled through Germany, France, and Italy on a two week [European vacation](https://www.promocodes.com/expedia-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=preparing-for-machu-picchu-plan-ahead). I attended the wedding of my best friend in a German castle high atop a mountain. I had a meal consisting of only baguettes, wine and cheese blocks from the Eiffel Tower. And I wandered through the canals of Venice, the hillsides of Tuscany and the charming streets of Rome. It was one of the best vacations of my life.

![two-week-european-vacation](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/two-week-european-vacation.jpg)

This year I decided I wanted to take a trip that was more off the beaten path. I wanted the type of vacation that requires a backpack instead of a wheeled suitcase. Yoga pants and hiking shoes instead of sundresses and flip-flops. This year I decided to book a trip to Peru, with the intention of climbing Machu Picchu on my 36th birthday. Here are my travel tips to save time and money while embracing your wanderlust.

### Where In The World Will You Go?

Traveling outside of the country is typically something that most people need to plan ahead for. The first step is deciding where you would like to travel. Based on your chosen location, you can determine what the best time of year to travel there is. For instance, Peru’s rainy season is November –April. Between January and April many mountain area road become impassable. However, May through October is the dry season, with July and August being the highest tourist travel. I chose mid-September for my trip, so that I didn’t have to worry about flooded roads or excessive amounts of tourists.

Once you have determined where you want to travel to and when, you can plan ahead and save. I typically take my vacation somewhere between July and September. Therefore I plan to use part of my [income tax return](https://www.promocodes.com/turbotax-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=preparing-for-machu-picchu-plan-ahead) to [purchase my plane ticket](https://www.promocodes.com/cheapoair-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=preparing-for-machu-picchu-plan-ahead). I received my return in mid-February, so I was able to purchase my plane ticket 7 months in advance. I have another wedding to attend this year in Boston so I planned my trip to Peru for the day after the wedding. I booked the following airfare:

*   Los Angeles, CA --> Boston,MA
* Boston, MA --> Lima, Peru.
* Lima, Peru --> Los Angeles, CA

…. for a grand total of $745!!

I started monitoring the flights to Peru via various travel websites, as well as the airlines that I have member accounts with. I also kept a close eye on the [travel promo codes](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/travel?ref=blog&ref_post=preparing-for-machu-picchu-plan-ahead) that are available on our website.

### Research Your Destination: Accommodations

![trip-advisor](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/trip-advisor.jpg)

In addition to airfare, you will have to prepare for in-country expenses. Websites like [TripAdvisor](https://www.promocodes.com/tripadvisor-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=preparing-for-machu-picchu-plan-ahead) are very helpful in determining the best and most affordable place to stay during your vacation. TripAdvisor also has hundreds of users who leave feedback on their experiences staying in certain hotels and B&B’s. You can benefit from other people’s insights when deciding where you should stay, and you will know how much money you will need for accommodations.

### Travel Visa & Passport Requirements

Researching hotels and attractions is part of the fun of planning your trip, however there are a few technical aspects of your trip that need to be looked look into as well. Do a google search to find out if the country you are traveling to requires you to attain a travel visa before entering the country. Peru issues a temporary travel visa upon arrival in country, so I will not need to do anything in regards to that before I arrive.

Also, check the expiration on your passport and the laws of the country you are traveling too. Some countries will not allow you to enter if your passport is expiring within the next 6 months. The last thing you would want to do is spend money on an international plane ticket and be denied boarding privileges due to a passport requirement.

### Vaccinations

It should also be noted that some countries have requirements (or strong suggestions) to receive vaccines before you travel to your destination. Do your due diligence and find out what you need to do before you travel. Most places have all of their requirements listed on their official travel and tourism site. Peru does not require proof of yellow fever vaccination to enter the country, especially if you only plan to visit Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu, however, the Peruvian government does suggest that if you plan on visiting any jungles in country that you should get a vaccination before your leave home.

### Become Conversational

![rosetta-stone-languages-offered](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/rosetta-stone-languages.jpg)

While you're on the Board of Tourism website, look to see what the official languages spoken are in their country you're traveling to. Since you are planning way ahead of time, it's much easier to learn a language if you have the proper time to practice and study. Using Rosetta Stone will help you become more familiar with the native tongue. We can also help you save money on the cost of the software by offering you these [Rosetta Stone promo codes](https://www.promocodes.com/rosetta-stone-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=preparing-for-machu-picchu-plan-ahead). Saving money by planning ahead allows you to have a few extra Neuvo Sol (Peruvian currency) in your pocket. Learning basic phrases will help you navigate around, order food, and greet and thank the locals. This will only make your trip easier and more enjoyable.

Until next time....Adios!

Preparing For Machu Picchu: Plan Ahead

It has been said that, “Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer”. I have committed myself to taking at least one trip outside of the US each year. That may sound advantageous (and expensive), but if planned properly, it is completely doable and affordable. Use coupons and book cheap plane tickets, learn a new language with rosetta stone promo codes and more.

Travel Tips to save time and money while embracing your wanderlust

As we continue on the road to your perfect summer vacation at the perfect price, one of the most significant expenses you will immediately face is the cost of travel. With that in mind, here are some ways to make sure you are getting the [best travel deal](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/travel?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-there) no matter how you choose to travel: hitting the open road, taking to the skies, or even setting sail!

### On the Road

If you have read any of my previous articles, than you know what a huge proponent I am for road trips. Especially with the recent drop in the cost of gas, spending a week or two of your summer vacation seeing the country from four wheels is a surprisingly fun and affordable option for vacationers on a particularly tight budget. Whether you are a carefree couple on a caprice, or you are taking the whole family Griswold style, keeping these tips in mind will help you avoid any hidden highway robbery.

The first thing to remember is that the work for your road trip begins long before anyone ever gets in the car. Start by mapping out the route of your trip. This will provide some necessary direction to your journey, and allow you to reserve your hotel accommodations ahead of time. Reserving your room online before getting on the road will be a big money saver. While deciding a route is important, don’t be afraid to stray a little here and there. Follow any signs or attractions that catch your interest, as these unplanned detours often prove to be the most memorable parts of your trip.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/map-out-your-trip.jpg)

It is also important to make sure your vehicle is road ready. Making sure your tires are properly inflated will ensure that you are maximizing your miles per gallon, and minimize the risk of a blowout. Of course, you should still have your spare tire, along with all of the necessary tools and safely equipment to change a flat. This includes a few reflective traffic-warning triangles, and perhaps a tire pressure gauge.

Another road trip essential is a small first aid kit. You could throw one together yourself with some Band-Aids and antibiotic ointment, or just buy a pre assembled kit. Also, try to think of any other emergency items that might come in handy as well, such as a paper map and a flashlight.

Finally, [renting a car for your trip](https://www.promocodes.com/enterprise-rent-a-car-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-there) can have a lot of advantages if you plan on traveling an especially great distance. First and foremost, you will not have to worry about the added miles to your baby. You will also have the opportunity to rent something a little nicer, or at the very least different, from what you usually drive, further following the spirit of vacation. Check out this article for [tips to save when renting a car](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-around).

### In the Sky

The recent dip in gas prices has been good for the price of air travel as well, which means that that summer vacation on the other side of the globe may be more affordable than you think. If you are planning to go overseas this summer, the key to saving on airfare is timing. [CheapAir.com](https://www.promocodes.com/cheapair-com-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-there) states that; 54 days prior to your flight is the prime time to get your tickets. Regardless of the day you plan on traveling, you are most likely to find the best deals by booking in the middle of the week. This is because airlines will typically put out their rate specials and deals on Sunday evening or Monday, then raise the rates as the weekend arrives.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/flying-across-the-globe.jpg)

Another great way to save when it comes to air travel is by finding a package deal. [The Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Bahamas,](https://www.promocodes.com/atlantis-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-there) is offering a great deal if you book soon. This package offers $250 airfare credit for each traveler, as well as admission into the Atlantis Waterpark, and a dolphin interaction! If the Bahamas isn’t on your bucket list this year, check out this [IHG coupon](https://www.promocodes.com/intercontinental-hotels-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-there) from PromoCodes.com to find a destination that is on your list! The possibilities are endless.

Finally, one of the best tips to making sure you don’t get taken advantage of in a foreign country is to have at least a little knowledge of the local language. Whether you are trying to learn a language completely, or you just want effective language learning software to brush the dust off what you learned in high school, the way to go is [Rosetta Stone](https://www.promocodes.com/rosetta-stone-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-there).

### On the Sea

If you are looking for the ultimate way to enjoy the journey, than your answer lies in, or rather on, the sea. Despite the luxurious accommodations and endless amount of entertainment, many people overlook the option of a cruise when considering their summer vacation. Because of the negative press the vacation cruise industry has received in the last couple of years, it is especially easy to find [unbeatable deals on cruises](https://www.promocodes.com/cheapcaribbean-com-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-there) to many exotic locations.

The key to scoring the best deal is to use a travel agent to book your cruise. Although they will have their own fee for their service, the relationship the agent has with the cruise lines will often translate into savings for you overall.

A Guide to Summer Travel: Getting There

As we continue on the road to your perfect summer vacation at the perfect price, one of the most significant expenses you will immediately face is the cost of travel. With that in mind, here are some ways to make sure you are getting the best deal no matter how you choose to travel: hitting the open road, taking to the skies, or even setting sail!

A Guide to Summer Travel: Getting there on a Budget

Here in Southern California, we are familiar with the phrase “It’s a small world.” While this may be true in some senses, the amount it costs to see this small world can seem down right…well, big. However, you should not let this perception stand in the way of your grand plans to get away this summer. There are ways to [save big on every aspect of your travels](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/summer-travel-on-a-budget), and utilizing these tips can make your dream summer vacation be more within your budget than you realized. We are going to explore creative saving solutions for a few of these components of travel, starting with how to get around a foreign city. Whether you decide to rent a car or make use of local forms of transportation, it is key to understand the perks and potential saving opportunities associated with either option.

### [Rental Car](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/car-rentals-and-parking?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-around)

When it comes to the problem of getting around in unfamiliar terrain, a rental car is the first option that comes to mind. Often times renting a vehicle is the only feasible option, especially if your trip is going to be on a tight schedule. If you have an itinerary that is jam packed with appointments or activities, then the convenience of a rental car is your best option. If this is the case, there are a few tips you can keep in mind to ensure that you [score the best deal on your wheels](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/rental-car-deals-and-5-tips-for-saving-the-most).

As always, the first trick to getting a great deal is to book your reservation early. This move has a plethora of benefits for you as the customer. Not only does this guarantee availability, but it will also give you the most rental options, and allow you to find the best rate. This is especially helpful if you have requirements for the type of vehicle you need, such as a minimum number of seats if you are traveling with your family.

However, if you have some flexibility with your automobile options, it often pays to be cheap frugal. I recommend booking the most inexpensive model available for your trip, which will usually be a small economy sedan. Since these vehicles are often the first to get booked, the company usually runs out of them first. If they do not have the model car you reserved, the rental company is required to give you an upgrade at no additional fee. Again, showing up early in the day will increase your chances of getting a free upgrade, as the economy cars are less likely to have already been returned. And always remember to look for a rental car promo code before you depart on your trip!

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/small-economy-sedan.jpg)

Most of the ways to save in regards to a rental car come down to common sense. Practicing driving habits that are good for fuel economy, such as keeping your speed below 65 or using the windows instead of the air conditioning, is an easy way to save a few dollars. Similarly, don’t fall for any of the unnecessary charges the company may try to impose. Be sure to return the car with the same amount of gas it had when you got it and don’t bother with the optional insurance. _Surprise: The insurance you already pay for every year has got you covered!_

The last thing to remember on the topic of renting a car is that location matters. Although each branch of a rental car company will have roughly the same selection of cars, where you rent your car from can have an impact on the rate you get. Because of associated fees, airport rental car locations tend to have higher rates than their offsite counterparts. By spending a little bit of money up front on a taxi from the airport, you can get a much better daily rate and save big in the long run.

### Local Transportation

If you are feeling a little adventurous, I recommend ditching the idea of a rental car all together. Although it can offer you slightly less control than your own vehicle, many destinations have well established and relied upon modes of public transportation. For travelers like myself who value the journey just as much as the final destination, these alternate means of transportation can be a very attractive option.

Especially if you plan on making use of public transportation in a foreign city, even basic knowledge of the local language will really come in handy. This can be as simple as investing a phrase book, which will provide you with translations for the most common and useful phrases. However, if it is an option, I recommend a language learning software. Whether your destination requires you to completely learn a language or just brush up, the best language learning software is Rosetta Stone. You can find a great deal on Rosetta Stone online, using this [Rosetta Stone promo codes](https://www.promocodes.com/rosetta-stone-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=a-guide-to-summer-travel-getting-around) from PromoCodes.com.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/learn-a-language.jpg)

What local modes of transit lack in freedom, they more than make up for in experience. In many cities around the world, the public transportation is a fixture of daily life for locals. A great example of this is the bullet trains used throughout Europe. Not only do these trains provide efficient and speedy (200 miles per hour to be exact!) transport to many landmarks and tourist hot spots, but the experience of the train itself is also a story to tell when you get home. Likewise, the trolley cars in San Francisco are an iconic image for the city and provide an exceptionally convenient means by which to navigate the hilly local landscape.

In the next entry we are going to look at some of the most appealing destinations for your getaway this summer. Until then, consider that vacationing is all about enjoying the ride. Whatever your chosen method of transportation, make sure you get a seat by the window.

A Guide to Summer Travel: Getting Around

There are ways to save big on every aspect of your travels, and utilizing these tips can make your dream summer vacation be more within your budget than you realized. We are going to explore creative saving solutions for a few of these components of travel, starting with how to get around a foreign city.

Save Big on Summer Travel with these tips

For many of us, the sun has set on Spring Break, and school is back in session. That means that it is back to boring teachers and two-hour long lectures and notes and studying. If you are like most students, every post-Spring Break class session is spent counting down the time until summer arrives. Unfortunately, by the time beach season rolls around, all of your friends have their pockets turned inside out. Luckily, the solution to this problem might be simpler than you think. Instead of just daydreaming about the adventures that summer holds, you can save big by turning those dreams into booked reservations now. But planning ahead isn’t the only tip to [affordable summer travel](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/summer-travel-savings). Here are some ways to save on each facet of your summer trip.

### How To Get There

The first major expense you are going to incur on the road to realizing your grand summer plans is travel. Don’t rule out hitting the road as a potential solution for this.

Don’t get fooled into thinking that you are going to blow your budget if your destination requires you to take to the sky. Air travel presents its own unique opportunities for saving, as long as you plan ahead. Especially when you are booking airfare, timing is everything. The optimum time to make flight reservations is 54 days before the flight according to [CheapAir](https://www.promocodes.com/cheapair-com-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=book-now-to-save-on-summer-travel), but that is just the beginning. Be sure to do the actually booking of your flight on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. This is because airlines typically announce their promotions at the beginning of the week, and raise their rates during the weekend.

![air-plane-travel](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/airplane-travel.jpg)

Despite what you might think, it is not in the interest of your budget to avoid busy airports. A busier airport means more competition between airlines, which often results in better rates. Also on the list of ideas that are better than they sound at first: the infamous rewards miles. Many people accrue miles (or similar rewards points) without even realizing it through their credit cards.

Finally, do everything in your power to avoid checking a bag (Unless you are flying [JetBlue](https://www.promocodes.com/jetblue-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=book-now-to-save-on-summer-travel), who give you one free). Bag fees start at $25 a bag each way, so this seemingly small expense adds up fast. Use every military packing technique you have in your arsenal to stuff your TSA measurement regulation adherent carry-on until it’s seams are ready to burst. It is also important to remember that you are allowed a personal item such as a backpack or purse, in addition to your carry-on bag. However, the personal item is also the best way to avoid paying baggage fees for awkwardly shaped items, such as your guitar or surfboard (staples when traveling for summer). Best of all, the flight crew is not going to want to deal with storing these items in the cabin, so they will often perform a gate-check of the bag for no charge!

### Where to Stay

The wonderful World Wide Web continues to make it easier to get the best price on a hotel room. For years, we have had sites that presented options for hotel rooms in a given city. Now the Internet has taken this concept even further. Sites like [Trivago](https://www.promocodes.com/trivago-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=book-now-to-save-on-summer-travel) allow you to see the competing rates for the same room across the leading online travel sites. Still, some sites take the concept of competition one step further. [HotelPlanner.com](https://www.promocodes.com/hotel-planner-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=book-now-to-save-on-summer-travel) alerts its customers of when better rates become available, and will even book rooms for customers who have already made reservation with a competing establishment. In addition to the comprehensive rates, these websites also offer all the information travelers could need about the features and amenities of the resort.

Another great way to save when finding your accommodations is to look for package deals. Especially for peak travel times, you will find many promotions for booking your room and flight as a package. For Instance, Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Bahamas, is offering some particularly attractive incentives for booking a trip today. In addition to a $250 airfare credit, each traveler gets free admission to the Atlantis Water Park, as well as a free dolphin encounter! Packages like this are going to continue to be offered by many companies as summer approaches, so make sure you are keeping your eyes open. There is a special feverish excitement with Spring Break that seems to distinguish it from other school off times. I don’t know if it is the increase in the temperature, or the scenic infusion of color as a result of blooming plant life, but there is an atmosphere of vitality making the urge to go out and explore unbearable. After being stuck inside all winter break (Southern California readers excluded), this Spring Break is the perfect opportunity to experience something new no matter what the size of your budget is. Here are some saving tips for whether you decide to explore your own backyard, or see the other side of the world.

**Keep It Small**

If the cost of tuition and books has left you with limited funds, there is still plenty of adventure you can fit into your time off. For instance, many people take for granted how much there is to see in their own state, or even neighboring towns. Why not take this opportunity to take a road trip a local landmark or [tourist attraction](https://www.promocodes.com/city-sightseeing-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=unique-spring-break-vacation-ideas-on-a-budget)? Sure, these sights can sometimes be kitschy or dated, but that is often the charm of them.

Keeping the details of your trip flexible is another good trick for [traveling on a budget](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/categories/travel-and-leisure). As you are driving, let the course of the vacation happen organically when it comes to specifics like where you are going to stop or where you are going to eat. This will allow you to make sure that the scope of the trip remains within your means. However, when it comes to where you are going to stay, remember to book your room online. You will often be able to find special rates or discounts with just a little effort, even for same day booking.

**Do It Big**

On the other hand, why not go big on the last real break from school until summer? There are still plenty of ways to save on your trip, even if your destination is halfway across the world, starting with how you go about making your flight arrangements.

One trick is to look for smaller airlines when [booking last minute plane tickets](https://www.promocodes.com/expedia-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=unique-spring-break-vacation-ideas-on-a-budget), as you can sometimes get a great price for flights that need to fill the remaining seats. Also, if possible, try to fly on non-peak days. According to [Southwest Airlines](https://www.promocodes.com/southwest-airlines-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=unique-spring-break-vacation-ideas-on-a-budget), the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday through Thursday.

Another way to save is to look for special booking packages. Many destinations offer [special savings during Spring Break](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/spring-break-travel-ideas-destination-on-a-dime), such as beautiful The Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Bahamas. As part of this Spring Sale Promo, by booking before April 15, you will get a $250 airfare credit, as well as free admission to the Atlantis Water Park and Dolphin Interaction! This [Atlantis promo code](https://www.promocodes.com/atlantis-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=unique-spring-break-vacation-ideas-on-a-budget) is a great opportunity to take advantage of. You get to go somewhere exotic without going broke! No matter what you choose to do or where you decide to go, be sure not to squander the time. Seeing a new place or trying a new activity is what makes life exciting, and what ill turn your time off this spring from a break to a vacation.

Unique Spring Break Vacation Ideas On A Budget

After being stuck inside all winter break (Southern California readers excluded), this Spring Break is the perfect opportunity to experience something new no matter what the size of your budget is. Here are some saving tips for whether you decide to explore your own backyard, or see the other side of the world.

Instead of having the winter blahs, my family likes to make the most out of the season. I go against my instinct to hibernate and use the snow as an opportunity to do some fun winter-activities. Some activities can get very costly (think skiing and snowboarding) but there are also plenty of ways to get outside that don’t break the bank!

One of my favorite snow activities as a kid was sledding. Nothing was more fun than waking up on a snowy morning, hearing on the radio that school was cancelled for the day, and running outside with the neighborhood kids to the nearest hill. It was hours of fun for practically free! There are lots of types available, but as a kid I loved saucer-style sleds. [Target](https://www.promocodes.com/target-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=discounted-family-activities-for-the-winter) has a great saucer/sled for less than $20.

Another snow activity I love is snowshoeing. I don’t know how to ski or snowboard, but last winter I had a yen to try a new snow activity. Snowshoeing is awesome because there’s no learning curve, just strap on a pair of snowshoes and start walking. It’s good exercise, too! Last year I found a farm that rented snowshoes and allowed you to snowshoe through the premises. It was so picturesque and a wonderful way to get some sunshine and fresh air even though it was cold out. My son and I enjoyed snowshoeing so much that I realized it would actually be more economical to buy inexpensive pairs of snowshoes instead of renting them each time. You can get a pair of [snowshoes](https://www.promocodes.com/rei-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=discounted-family-activities-for-the-winter) for only $15. If you end up deciding to be a serious snowshoer, there are more expensive ones available, but these are good for getting started or for kids just getting interested.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/SnowShoes.jpg)

Ice skating is a fun, family activity that you can do on the cheap.  Lots of cities have outdoor rinks and all you have to bring are your ice skates. You can either rent a pair at the rink or buy some. If you want some nicer ones, you can check craigslist or local yard sale groups. Sometimes you’ll find them in near mint condition but for a low price. If you have young kids don’t know how to skate well, you can look for double-runner style skates to help them stay upright!

If you want to go skiing or snowboarding this winter, there are ways to prevent that from breaking the bank. There are some awesome deals if you check out [Groupon](https://www.promocodes.com/groupon-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=discounted-family-activities-for-the-winter) or [LivingSocial](https://www.promocodes.com/livingsocial-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=discounted-family-activities-for-the-winter). If you can get a weekday off of work, lots of ski resorts offer weekday discounts.

Not outdoorsy or can’t stand the snow? There are lots of indoor things to help get you through the winter. My family loves museums. In fact, we usually have one membership a year to a favorite museum.  Last year we did the Children’s Museum and this year we’re doing the Museum of Science. Museum memberships are great because whenever we’re bored and the weather is lousy, we can just pop into the museum for a few hours. We usually break even on the membership cost pretty quickly, so we certainly get our money’s worth. Many local libraries offer discounted museum passes. Make sure you check the museum’s website to check for any discounts and deals. I discovered that the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut gives discounts if you show a club card for a local supermarket and lots of museums will also offer a [AAA discount](https://www.promocodes.com/aaa-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=discounted-family-activities-for-the-winter).

Or just stay home. If you don’t want to leave the house, make something warm in the Crockpot. I love mulled cider, spicy chili, and beef stew. Or bake some cinnamon rolls, cookies, or a loaf of homemade bread. Fill the house with some aromatic comfort food and fill your tummies up, too. Binge watch a new show as a family, do arts and crafts, or build a robust Lego creation.

Enjoy the rest of your winter and before you know it, you’ll be playing outside and planning for the summer!

Discounted Family Activities for the Winter

Instead of having the winter blahs, my family likes to make the most out of the season. I go against my instinct to hibernate and use the snow as an opportunity to do some fun winter-activities. Some activities can get very costly (think skiing and snowboarding) but there are also plenty of ways to get outside that don’t break the bank!

Travel during the holidays is the definition of misery for many people. Nothing is better at getting your tinsel in a tangle than crowds of tired travelers, understaffed check-in counters, and invasive security checkpoints. However, these are often necessary evils in order to enjoy being home for the holidays. We don’t think you have to sacrifice one for the other though, so we have put together a list of the top 12 tips for holiday air travel to save you time, money, and peace of mind, as you embark on your holiday excursion.

**Portable Power **

Your cellphone is one of the most important tools is your travel utility belt. The number of problems that can be solved using just this handheld device is staggering, and when you are away from home it can easily become your safety blanket. Unfortunately, the battery is going to drain more quickly as a result of the increased use. Remember to bring a charging case or a portable battery charger, so that you can charge your device on the fly.

**Small Screen Entertainment     **

Instead of playing $3 for headphones so you can squint at a tiny TV 4 rows ahead of you, bring your own entertainment. Load your tablet with entertainment options like movies, TV shows, and games. Now you have a library of personalized selections available at your own convenience, and for free! This is an especially effective way to pacify little ones, who are even less excited about sitting in the same spot for 5 hours as you are.

**Cover your App**

Download travel apps to your smartphone to help navigate problematic travel tasks like airport parking, TSA check points, and unfamiliar terminals. [Travel Apps](https://www.promocodes.com/blog/10-useful-travel-apps-and-accessories) like FlightStatus let you check to see if your plane is on time, and GateGuru will even let you know which in-airport food options are available and where. They also have apps for arranging hotel and transportation accommodations, finding the best price on gasoline, and even locating the nearest restroom open to the public!

**Pack like a Pro **

With almost every [airline charging for checked bags](https://www.promocodes.com/southwest-airlines-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=12-tips-for-holiday-travel), it is more important than ever to pack efficiently. Use military-style packing techniques to fit all of your belongings into a carry-on bag, if possible. This means rolling your clothes up instead of folding them, in order to minimize surface area. Knowing your airlines specific luggage allowances is also essential. Many airlines allow you one carry-on bag and one personal item, which include backpacks and purses.

**Ship Savvy**

When traveling for the holidays, transporting the gifts can often be a nuisance. Even if you choose to check the presents, the wrapping is usually ruined during the search process. Avoid all of these headaches by shipping the gifts to your destination ahead of time. To take advantage of the cheapest shipping rate, plan this step early and use ground shipping. The longer shipping period will be inconsequential as long as they show up before the big day, and you can save a few dollars and have one less thing to worry about. Similarly, have gifts that are purchased online shipped directly to your final destination.

**E-Boarding Pass  **

The list of things your cellphone can do is huge, and constantly expanding. But did you know that you can use your phone to skip the Disneyland-esque line queue at the ticketing counter? Check-in for your flight and obtain an electronic boarding pass all from your smartphone, without ever having to step foot in line. Not only will this tip save you crucial time in a situation where it is at a premium, but you will no longer have to worry about misplacing your boarding pass.

**Underdress for the Occasion**

Traveling is about practicality and efficiency above all else. The days of dawning a suit and tie for a flight are long gone. Unless you are one of the Kardashians, you should have to worry about looking camera ready at the airport. Don’t wear excessive amounts of clothing, as they will only serve to slow you down in the security lines. Avoid jewelry, belts, and accessories, and always go with slip-on shoes. Keep your outfit simple and comfortable, since you will be sitting in it for the next couple of hours.

**Buy Early, Fly Early**

We all know the old adage that the early bird gets the worm. Well, as it turns out, he also enjoys the luxury of reasonably priced plane tickets and less crowded airport terminals. Book flights far in advance in order to get the best rate. According to a study conducted by [CheapAir.com](https://www.promocodes.com/cheapair-com-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=12-tips-for-holiday-travel), booking 54 days ahead of time will, on average, get you the best price. Also, select an early AM flight to avoid crowds and delays. Even if your flight does get delayed, you will have the most options for making alternate arrangements.

**Share the Suitcase**

As we talked about before, fewer pieces of [luggage](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/luggage-bags?ref=blog&ref_post=12-tips-for-holiday-travel) means fewer headaches. Once all of your clothes are efficiently rolled and packed into your bag, don’t let the remaining space go to waste. Condense family member’s belongings into as few suitcases as possible. The airlines charge a flat rate for checked bags, so this is a great way to make sure you get the most for your money. This also minimizes the amount of time spent fighting through other travelers at the ‘luggage-go-round.’

**Don’t Go Hungry**

The cost of food can add up quickly when you are away from home. On top of that, food prices at the airport are at a premium since they know your options are limited. However, you don’t want to be stuck on the plane with a growling stomach. To remedy this, pack your own meals on travel days. Snacks like nuts or granola bars are energizing and packed with protein, and fruit slices are a refreshing alternative to vacuum packed airplane food.

**Personal Peace**

Traveling by plane can be a claustrophobic experience. The key to this is sensory deprivation. Headphones, ear plugs, eyes masks and inflatable neck pillows take up minimal room and can provide you with much needed solace on a hectic flight. While these items won’t stop the stir-crazy child in the row behind you from kicking your seat, they will do wonders to help you ignore him until he tires himself out.

**Keep Track of your Bag**

There is no worse way to start to a vacation than lost luggage. A lost bag can quickly derail even the most thoroughly thought out itinerary. Luckily, we have a solution to make lost luggage a thing of the past. Add an address tag to the inside of your checked bag, just in case the outer tag is damaged or lost during inspection. If you really want to be proactive about not losing your bag, put a GPS tracker in with your clothes. This way, we can keep track of the location of your luggage the whole flight, and ensure that it doesn’t end up in suitcase purgatory.

Summer is over, and the changing of the seasons means that the weather is starting to cool down. Of course, in California, that change is marked by a dramatic drop from temperatures in the mid-90s to temperatures in the lower 90s. When this happens, Southern Californians leap at the opportunity to show off their top of the line cold weather apparel, anxious to meet the minimum usage required to justify such a purchase in this climate.

Whether you live in a climate as moderate as Santa Monica or in a place that has seasons of biblical proportions, you are familiar with the excitement of dawning your cold weather apparel. The patterns, colors, and layers allow you a lot more wardrobe options than just a tank and trunks. There is just one problem: how do you find quality, brag-worthy outerwear without freezing your bank accounts? No need to worry, we have got your back because we have a lot of coupons and promo codes from outdoor clothing and gear stores.

**For Him**

When it comes to wardrobe, we (men, I mean) tend to submit to the rule that simpler is better. So as the cold of the ensuing fall creeps in, the name of the game is versatility. We want an outfit that will keep us warm if it is chilly, but we aren’t trapped in if it warms up. [The North Face](https://www.promocodes.com/the-north-face-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=seasonal-sales-to-fall-for) is one of the premier names in quality cold wear, and this [The North Face ThermoBall Jacket](https://www.thenorthface.com.tr) at [REI](https://www.promocodes.com/rei-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=seasonal-sales-to-fall-for) has a couple features that make it unique. The company says that the “thermoball” material is lighter than down while providing the same level of insulation, and the material will continue to insulate even if it gets wet! Finally, the new material allows the whole jacket to fold into one of the hand pockets on the front, in case the weather turns around on you. In addition to the great deals and discounts you can always find, REI also has a worthwhile membership program. For a one-time fee of $20, you gain lifetime access to exclusive deals, coupons and discounts.

Most guys like me are more concerned with functionality than trendiness. With that in mind, check out this huge sale at [Backcountry](https://www.promocodes.com/backcountry-com-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=seasonal-sales-to-fall-for). Right now, Backcountry is offering up to 50% off past seasons colors of The North Face apparel, such as jackets, fleeces, and accessories. There is a wide selection of items for both men and women, so it is a great opportunity to get something for yourself or to get a little early Christmas shopping done.

**For Her**

As I have come to realize from growing up in southern California, there is no shame in investing in top of the line snow gear without any intention of ever seeing snow. Even more so, I am definitely not going to be the one responsible for ending the trend of jean skirts with [UGG boots](https://www.promocodes.com/ugg-australia-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=seasonal-sales-to-fall-for). My point is, sometimes fashion doesn’t have to be logical. Still, it is nice to have help with where to save on this season’s styles. This [MicroTherm StormDown Jacket at Eddie Bauer](https://www.eddiebauer.com/product/mens-microtherm-20-stormdown-jacket/38832402) will keep you warm and cozy as the temperatures continue to drop. Best of all, Eddie Bauer is having a sale on all of their outerwear for men and women.

Since 1920, Eddie Bauer has been producing tried and tested gear to keep you safe from the elements. Like The North Face, most people associate Eddie Bauer products with impeccable quality, but the price tag to match. Check out [this Eddie Bauer deal](https://www.promocodes.com/eddie-bauer-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=seasonal-sales-to-fall-for), and use the coupon code to receive up to 50% off plus free shipping. This deal is part of their fall sale, so check it out soon before it expires!

**For the Kids**

Keeping the kids bundled up and warm in the fall is as important as it is adorable. Unfortunately, they grow so fast that the adorable sweater vest you bought them last year fits more like a fall baby bikini top. For that reason, it is particularly important to get a good deal when shopping for your little one. [Carter’s](https://www.promocodes.com/carters-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=seasonal-sales-to-fall-for) is having a big sale on everything your child will need for the seasonal shift. Get 20%-40% off the company’s Cold Weather Store, which is filled with items that are as cute as they are cozy.

Fall fashions are as much about expressing your style as they are about adapting to the weather. Use these deals to keep your closet, and your wallet, full.

When it comes to watching a football games, it is hard to beat the comfort and convenience of your own couch. Especially when you consider that the average price of a ticket to an NFL game is $82, the thought of having to pay for a ticket AND put on pants to watch the game can seem downright silly. Still, every sports fan understands the intangible value of actually being in the stadium to support your team.  When I was just a young, budding sports fan, this conundrum led me to some useful tips on how to take in the electric atmosphere of an NFL stadium on game day without turning my pockets inside out.

**[Tickets](https://www.promocodes.com/coupons/tickets?ref=blog&ref_post=secrets-to-save-at-the-stadium)**

Purchasing your tickets is the first step on your journey to the stadium, so it is critical that you get off to a good start. There are many extenuating factors what will affect ticket prices, so the key to a good deal is to strategize.

Where you buy your tickets will have the greatest impact on how much you pay. Stick to the internet. Ticket Liquidator is a fantastic source for affordable event tickets, especially football games. All you have to do is go to TicketLiquidator.com and search the name of your team, and they will provide you with a list of upcoming games and ticket options. Not surprisingly, Craigslist can also be a great place to score seats for cheap. Season ticket holders will often sell the tickets to games they are unable to attend, which can mean big discounts. Check out our [Ticket Liquidator Coupons](https://www.promocodes.com/ticket-liquidator-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=secrets-to-save-at-the-stadium).

Contrary to what you might think, buying early isn’t necessarily the most cost effective tactic. As kickoff draws closer, sellers will be more motivated to get rid of their tickets. So the closer you can get to the tickets ‘expiration date,’ the more likely you are to get the best price. On average, buying tickets within 48 hours of the game will cost you 30% less than buying 2-3 weeks in advance according to an article in Time Magazine.

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/superbowl.jpg)

Games that have a more crucial impact on the team’s season are always going to draw in bigger ticket prices, as will rivalry games, so avoid them if you can. Pick a week when your team is hosting a low ranked opponent, as this will mean cheaper tickets. As a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, I know this fact all too well.

Don’t worry about trying to get the closest seats you can. Let’s be honest: no budget ticket is going to give you a better view of the game than you would have on your television. Keep in mind that it is the atmosphere and experience that you are paying for, and there is plenty of that in the nosebleeds. So save the extra money by taking the cheap seats, and catch the highlights on Sports Center.

**Parking**

As someone who grew up in around Los Angeles, I know what it’s like to get gouged for parking. A great way to avoid outrageous parking fees at the stadium is to use public transportation to get to and from the game. Nearly all sports stadiums have bus stops and/or train stations on-site. On top of saving on parking and not having to fight the traffic on the way home, you will be free to enjoy the festivities without worrying who will drive after the game!

If you do choose to drive, there are still ways you can avoid paying top dollar for parking. Websites like [Parkwhiz.com](https://www.parkwhiz.com/) make it easy to find discounts on parking. Go to the website and enter the date and time of your event, as well as its location. In addition to showing you all of the available parking in the area, Parkwhiz offers you exclusive discounts and even allows you to purchase a pass and reserve a spot.

**Pregame**

![](https://cdn.promocodes.com/img/upload/Tailgating.jpg)

The final tip is to get there early. Sure, the game will be exciting, but that is only a small part of the experience. Be sure you show up with enough time to enjoy the uniquely football tradition of tailgating. The smoke coming off the open grills, footballs being tossed chaotically through the parking lot… that is the experience you just won’t get at home. All you need is your team hat from Lids and a case of beer as an ice breaker and you will have no trouble fitting it! Make sure to check out Promocodes.com for [exclusive Lids coupons](https://www.promocodes.com/lids-coupons?ref=blog&ref_post=secrets-to-save-at-the-stadium).

Just like in football, the key to a successful evening is a solid game plan. With these savings tips in your playbook, you will be all set to kick this NFL season off right!

In 2013, CheapAir.com compiled [data](https://www.cheapair.com/blog/travel-tips/when-should-you-buy-your-airline-ticket-heres-what-our-data-has-to-say/) of 4,191,533 trips and plotted the rises and falls of airfare prices. Because most flights go on sale 331 days in advance, they discovered a “prime booking window” and exact dates when domestic and international flights were the cheapest.

They pinpointed 54 days—or 7.5 weeks—in advance as the exact time when airfare cost the least through the entire year. Conversely, busy travel periods such as holiday season had fares at 96 days as the lowest, roughly 14 weeks. Seeing as though the Christmastime is nearly three months away, now is the perfect time to book your domestic flight home.

CheapAir.com also concluded the worst time to buy a flight is the day before. As you can see by the chart, it spikes just at the last minute. Followed by the day before is the second and third day before, illustrating it’s never a good idea to book last-minute, dispelling the myth that it is.

The “prime booking window”—29 to 104 days out—shows that there is a lengthy period of time when it makes sense to book your ticket. Booking too early or too late is never a good idea.

CheapAir.com ran another study in 2012 which suggested the best time to book an international flight was 11 to 12 weeks in advance, with the exact low point being 81 days in advance. They compared rates of approximately 5.6 million flights, a truly reliable sample size.
