If you’re feeling crafty… make homemade treats!

If you’ve never been motivated to make dog treats before now, this could be what you need to craft something extra-special. For dogs, peanut butter is supreme; for cats, anything with salmon works perfectly. One of the best (and easiest) recipes for dogs is below:

Homemade PB Dog Treats – Three Ingredients

Combine these ingredients to make simple dog snacks:

            2 cups whole wheat flour

            1.5 teaspoons baking powder

            ⅓ cup organic peanut butter

            1 cup hot water

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees (Fahrenheit), mix and roll out to ¼” thickness. Cut them into little triangles and bake on a greased cookie sheet for 20 minutes.

And for those finicky felines…

Homemade PB Cat Treats – Three Ingredients

Combine these ingredients to make simple cat treats:

2 cups whole wheat flour

10 oz. canned salmon

1 egg (beaten)

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees (Fahrenheit), blend in a food processor and then add water to get to bread-dough consistency. Roll out to ¼” thickness. Cut them into little triangles and bake on a greased cookie sheet for 20 minutes.

If you’re feeling guilty… plan something special

Do you feel guilty because you work a 9-5 job and are rarely available for your little one? Join the club! We recommend searching for a dog-walking or dog play zone that you can schedule your dog once a week. One national company that provides services is Petsmart, which does a doggie day camp that operates seven days a week. The camps are at select locations, but it’s worth signing up if you’re close.

Savings tip: If you buy a pass, you can save significantly on five- and ten-day packages of sessions.

If you’re feeling daring… do a home haircut

Are you daring enough to try this on your own? It might not be much of a gift while it’s happening (to your dog), but after, Fido will be fresh, clean, and cute, and you’ll both sleep heavy after the hard work it took. If you have some time, add something extra with a cut-to-size doggie bandana, bow tie, or hair bow, which you can buy at Dog Collars Boutique if you’re not a natural crafter.

If you’re rushed… sign up for a subscription box

If you’re the type who likes surprises, deals, and samples, you may have purchased a subscription box in the past. There are beauty boxes, clothes boxes, men’s boxes – just about everything. And that includes the subscription boxes for pets, like Barkbox, one of the most recognizable names in town. For National Love Your Pet Day, it really is the gift that keeps on giving.
