Restorative Ways to Reduce Stress

After one of the longest weeks of the year so far, I can honestly say that I could not be happier that it is the weekend is finally here. It is the perfect time to unwind and get rid of all of the stress built up from the week. Since stress isn’t particularly the healthiest way to live life, it is essential to learn techniques to keep it in check on the daily. I don’t always have time to fit in a workout after a long day at work, so I started looking for an easy alternative to end my day. What I found was amazing! This restorative yoga pose has done wonders for my mind before bed, allowing me to have a more restful sleep. All you have to do is lay on the floor and bring your butt up close to the wall, keeping your pelvis and stomach even. Then slowly bring your legs straight up against the wall, keeping them relaxed. If you need to add additional padding underneath, do so with a cushion or blanket. Relax your body and make sure your chin is just slightly lower than forehead, to allow to the blood to properly flow and relax your mind. Then just lay there with your arms extended next to your body, palms up, and focus on relaxing your breathing for 15 minutes or until you feel relaxed. When you are ready to exit the pose, bring your knees to your chest for a few minutes and then roll out of the pose. I like to do this a few times a week and take the time to clear my mind and meditate for a bit. It is an inexpensive and healthy way to watch your health and get a better sleep, without adding medication to your daily intake. It is also fun. If you live with roommates, you can even make it a nightly routine in your apartment for some bonding time! It is a great transition into a healthier lifestyle; if you want more simple approaches to improve your health, check out our guide of 8 easy steps to transition into a healthier lifestyle. I think once you try this one though, you will catch the bug and want to keep trying more yoga poses!
