Putting the Lids on This Week's Tip Jars: July 25, 2014

It is finally the weekend! We hope that you all had a wonderful week and have fun plans this weekend to unwind and catch up on everything you need to do. Can you believe that August is next week? It feels like summer just began, and we are already getting ready for Back-to-School and other fall activities. Now is the perfect time to check in at your favorite stores to see if they are having any fantastic sales on your summer favorites. It is the perfect time to stock up on classic favorites that will be in season, year after year. As always, check in with us before you make any purchases savvy savers. We are hard at work to find you the best online deals!

Fixing up your home can seem like a daunting task at times. It seems that everything goes wrong at once and you only have so much time and money to fix it all. I know a personal annoyance of mine is squeaky doors. Instead of going out and buying WD-40, just use what you have around the house and save your money for the biggest jobs. Spraying cooking spray on the hinges and then wiping them clean should stop the annoying squeaks and have them acting like new again.

Summer and styling hair don’t particularly go hand in hand with each other, but with this little trick, you can save yourself some frustration and money. When you need to blow-dry your hair, apply some deodorant to the back of your neck to keep it from getting sweaty and causing your hair underneath to stick and instantly curl. This will save you from buying excess hair products to keep everything in place, and it will keep you more comfortable, which is key to any styling process.

Electronics make up so much of our houses now a days, that you probably don’t even know where to start to lower your electric bill. We have all been taught to unplug appliances and electronics that we aren’t using before leaving the house for the day, but truth be told, who can remember to do that every morning when they are running out of the house late for work. Instead of stressing out that you forgot to unplug your straightener or the iron, use a smart charger. There are many chargers on the market that will shut off once the item is either fully charged or no longer in use. It is a lifesaver!

Cupcakes are universally loved and are the prefect treat for just about any occasion. Instead of investing in a cupcake stand or cupcake traveler, make your own. Not only will you look more creative, but you also won’t have to worry about any of them falling on each other. Just go to your local dollar store or grocery store and pick up a package of clear cups. Then hole punch two holes in each cup that will allow you to secure the cups together. Then place the cupcake inside and tie the cups together with ribbons. It is inexpensive and practical!

This special tip was brought to you by our merchant Sportsman’s Guide! Summer brings out the adventurer in all of us, and they remind us to spend wisely when we are shopping for our summer equipment. For instance, if you are a casual fisher, start out with just your rod and flies. There is no need to buy everything until you know how often you are actually going to go out and fly fish. Starting slow will ensure that you don’t overbuy or break the bank!

Have a wonderful weekend again everyone!

xoxo Shannon
