Putting the Lids on This Week's Tip Jars: February 14, 2013

Happy Valentine’s Day beautiful people! We hope that your day is filled with flowers, chocolates, hugs, and kisses, whether you are at home with your family/loved ones or spending the day at work. Luckily for all of us here in the office, we get to enjoy a lovely long weekend and score some great savings at the same time. Not only will you get to enjoy the best holiday ever tomorrow, discount candy day, but there are also amazing savings all weekend for Presidents Day. What are you going to buy savvy savers?!

If you still don’t know what to get your loved ones this year, try giving them a month-long break from something they don’t enjoy doing. For example, tell them you will do the dishes or laundry for the entire month, while you let them relax and unwind from their busy days. Sometimes it is the little things that count the most, and this gift would definitely be one that keeps giving!

Hopefully you were able to send out your flowers early this year since Valentines falls on a Friday. If you missed the cutoff, send them next week! It may be late, but this way your loved one can enjoy their flowers for a whole week, instead of having them die over the weekend. It is better late than never.

If you had trouble finding the perfect gift, or you still haven’t picked anything out yet, donate to their favorite charity. Not only is this creative, but it will also show them that you care about their passions as well. It is a win/win situation. On top of that, you may be able to use it as a tax deduction for next year!

If going out tonight is too expensive or hectic, push your celebrations to another night. Not only will you be less rushed, but you can also save money, especially if you are planning a getaway. If you wait a few weeks, you will watch the prices drop dramatically!

Valentine’s Day is all about the sweets and loving gestures, so why not combine the two for a romantic evening. Instead of buying an expensive, store bough dessert, make your own! When you finish dinner or come back from your evening plans, make sundaes together or heat up some chocolate and dip fruit and other snack in it for a little treat. This is inexpensive but a beautiful way to end your night.

As always, please have a wonderful and safe weekend!
