Putting the Lids on This Week's Tip Jars: April 25, 2014

HAPPY FRIDAY! For all of our Miss Congeniality fans out there, we know you probably already know that today, April 25th, is the perfect day. It’s not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light spring jacket. Hopefully it is true for where you are living because here in Santa Monica, that description is spot on. Hopefully by now you all know that our Mother’s Day Giveaway is in full swing and have entered and shared it with all of your friends. With $2,500 worth of prizes, this definitely isn’t a giveaway that you will want to miss! We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

If you have ever experienced a pain in a weird spot or just in need of a little heat pack, this DIY project will do the trick! I have been having a little TMJ pain the last few weeks, and I filled an old sock with rice, and it has been doing wonders! This heat pack is moldable and usable, so no matter where I hurt, it works like a charm! If you want it to look a little fancier, you can put a pretty piece of cloth over the sock and then tie it off with a rubber band.

Having throw rugs around the house or apartment definitely adds nice pops of colors, but they can also be a bit dangerous. When they move around or the sides flip up, people can trip and get hurt. There are pads that you can put under your rug to prevent it from slipping, but I like this idea better! To protect your floors, put down painters tape first, and then add Velcro to the floor and the bottom of the carpet. This way you can actually stick the rug to the floor.

Dark eye circles and puffy eyes are never cute, but unfortunately we all have to deal with it at some point or the other. Next time you wake up with these unsightly marks, try this quick trick. Soak two cotton pads in either green tea or chamomile tea and place the pads under your eyes. This little mask will reduce the swelling and soothe the inflammation!

Allergies and cold season is in full swing and many of you are probably over trying new medicines and OTC products. Well how about give into your sweet tooth craving! Marshmallows contain gelatin and marshmallow root, both of which are known to soothe irritations. I just tried it this week, as I am getting over a cold, and it actually worked! It didn’t make my sore throat go away but it took the pain away for a bit.

We are really big into reusable and DIY project here to save money and also help the environment. Microfiber cloths are one of my favorite household projects because they can be used on so many different surfaces and ways. Instead of buying new paper towel rolls, just buy a pack of your favorite microfiber cloths. This way when you use them and they get dirty, you can throw them in the washer. In the end it will save you so much money because you aren’t buying a product that just gets thrown away.
