What to Keep and Sell in Your Closet This Season

The old adage, “what's old is new again” couldn't be more true.  The catwalks of London, Milan, Paris and New York are filled with styles reminiscent of decades past.  With clothing constantly going in and out of style, how do you know what's worth saving and what you should toss or sell?

We've rounded up this season's hottest styles to share with you; what items are worth keeping around and what you should sell to put a little extra cash back in your bank account!

Keep:  Anything with Stripes

Wide stripes, skinny stripes, pinstripes all are huge this year!

Bold, bright, primary colored stripes filled the runways at Altuzarra and Proenza Schouler.  These cheerful rugby-esque accents look great on dresses and tops.

Pinstripes made a splash at the collections of Monse, Rag & Bone, Self Portrait and Adam Selman, among many others.  To get the look, update a classic oxford shirt by wearing it slouchy and letting it hang off one shoulder, or twist it around so the buttons create a diagonal rather than straight line and tuck it into a skirt or pair of pants.

Sell: Ill Fitting Garments

If it doesn't fit you well, it's not going to look good.  Don't waste valuable closet space on items which are too small or don't look right.   Instead sell them on popular sites such as Poshmark or eBay and use the cash to find something that fits just right!

Keep: Military Detailed Jackets

Embellishments taken from traditional officers' jackets such as epaulets, gold buttons and different type of passementerie look fresh and vibrant in various colors as part of Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and Dsquared2's collections.

Even if you have a solid colored jacket lying around, take a cue from the runway and give these classic jackets an upgrade by pairing them with bold colored garments or voluminous silhouettes.

Sell:  Heels Too High to Walk In

This season the trend is all about low heels, block heels and trendy sneakers which provide both comfort and style.  While we don't recommend giving up all your high heels just yet, sell any that leave you feeling like you're teetering around on stilts and give you blisters!

*Another bonus to comfortable footwear is that you don't need to stow a pair of flats in your bag to commute in!  Perfect since some of the gorgeous micro mini purses hitting store shelves barely fit a wallet and phone!

Keep:  Everything Pink

From blush to magenta, this season there is no hotter color!  No longer just for the Elle Woods and Barbies of the world, pink is making a comeback.  Wear it head-to-toe for maximum impact or sprinkle in a few light colored pieces for a soft and romantic look.

While some say the pink movement is politically charged, we're just happy to see pink back in the spotlight looking sexy, sophisticated, and cool for people of all ages.

Toss: Anything with Too Much Wear and Tear

Go through your wardrobe and look for signs of damage.  Sweaters can develop pilling, seams can rip and colors can fade. Toss or donate anything that you'll no longer wear.
