Fall 2013 Trend Guide

By Jasmin Vasquez  •  September 12, 2013

Fall is a season that always delivers delight. Rich textures, unexpected color palettes and extreme detailing are especially enticing this fall. Whatever the trend, outerwear is a huge deal and may be all that is needed to adjust to each trend. Statement-making outerwear manifested itself in a number of ways this season. Think bold furs, oversize parkas, and cool leathers.

DO invest in eye-catching outerwear.

DON'T be afraid to experiment with various colors, lengths, and textures.

DO consider the rest of your outfit when rocking statement-making coats. Keep everything else simple.

Punk Rock

Following the Met Gala, this trend was bound to remain on the radar. With the leadership of Hedi Slimane, Saint Laurent is a major player in the trend. Safety pins, flannels, floral prints, and lace are the key details to showing your grungy side. Rebellion never looked so cool.

DO wear animal prints in updated and unexpected color palettes.

DO wear graphics; they are stronger than ever making an appearance on tees and sweaters.

DON’T overdo it; stick to one piece featuring this trend.

Don’t be fooled by its tough exterior, leather can be sporty, edgy, or feminine depending on how it's styled. The prim and proper silhouettes seen on the runway exude feminine elegance.

DO go for a colored leather piece every once in a while. Style it as you would a regular knit.

DON'T be afraid to try an all-leather outfit; keep colors neutral and everything else simple.

DO combine lingerie pieces with warmer pieces like stocking, fur coats and knit sweaters.

DON’T shy away from mixing textures, this will only add more dimension to your look.
